The HRSA Report shows NJ having a 25% deficit by 2036.
New Jersey is one of the 10 states with the largest projected RN shortages in 2036. These projections assume the historical patterns of attrition, graduation and labor force participation remains the same over the forecast period. Enrollments in schools need to be increased in order to meet the demand if we are going to have enough providers for NJ residents. Click HERE to read the HRSA fact sheet.

Long-Term Care/Assisted Living Nurse Residency Program
NJCCN has created the New Jersey Nursing Collaborative for Long Term Care/Assisted Living. It is offered to both RN and LPN new graduates. This program is a 12-month online transition into practice program. The overall intent is to enhance new nurse retention and patient safety. This program is partially supported by a grant from the New Jersey Industry Partnerships – New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development.
| |
New Jersey Acute Care Nurse Residency Collaborative
The acute care collaborative aims to increase the use of standardized, high-quality nurse residency programs across the state through the implementation of the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program.
There are now 22 hospitals (14 in the GAINS Grant) participating in the Nurse Residency Collaborative. The NJ turnover rate is 11.5% . The first year RN turnover rate nationally is 23.8% (NSI, 2024). This demonstrates a return on investment (ROI) for organizations.

NJAC/HCANJ Collaboration
Connecting NJ Nursing Programs to NJ LTC Clinical Sites
HCANJ, in collaboration with New Jersey Collaborating Center for Nursing (NJCCN), New Jersey Action Coalition (NJAC), Deans of Nursing and educators across the state, is creating a pathway for Registered Nurse students to have their clinical rotation in Nursing Homes. With workforce shortage that is not expected to recover until 2026, it is essential that we establish a nursing pipeline to ensure access to care for our seniors and improve outcome.
Find a Long Term Care Site to place your NJ nursing students for unique and diverse clinical experiences.

How do Virtual Schwartz Rounds (VSR) Work?
VSR are remote convenings that take place online using Zoom. They provide a forum for connecting with nursing colleagues facing challenging experiences while trying to care for themselves and others. They are opportunities to connect with one another about difficult or uplifting experiences, to offer and to receive support, and to decrease a sense of isolation.
