Sandy Muskovitz Danto Nominated to NJHSA Board
On January 27th Sandy Muskovitz Danto was nominated to the 2019-20 NJHSA Board of Directors. Sandy is an American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) board member, member of the executive committee, and a vice-chair of Ashalim, JDC's advisory committee for Israeli youth-at-risk. She also is a member of JDC's Eshel committee for Israeli elderly and the fund-raising committee for poor Jews in the Former Soviet Union. Sandy is a member of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit's (JFMD) board of governors, member of Federation's Israel and Overseas Committee, a JVS board member, a board member of Michigan State University Hillel and the Hillel Campus Alliance of Michigan, and a Jewish Women's Foundation trustee. Sandy was president of Detroit's Jewish Family Service from 2007-2010, served as JFMD Campaign and Community Development chair from 2012-2015, and is a past board member of Hebrew Free Loan, Jewish Senior Life, co-chaired the Keane Crisis Fund, and continues to perform on various advisory boards and committees. Sandy has an M.A. in counseling.

The Jerusalem Hills Therapeutic Centers Joins the Network
The Jerusalem Hills Therapeutic Centers
have joined the Network! Jerusalem Hills is a unique institution, providing therapeutic treatment and special education to boys and girls, between the ages of 8 and 18. Jerusalem Hills cares for approximately 125 of Israel’s “most at risk” youngsters and provides a wide variety of specialist therapeutic treatments which are tailored to each child’s specific needs.

The Network Represents at JDAD 2019
NJHSA and nine member agencies from around the country (JFS Houston, JEVS, JCS Baltimore, JFCS Philadelphia, JFSA Cleveland, JFS New Haven, JSSA Rockville, Ruth and Norman Rales JFS, and JFS Lehigh Valley) participated in the 9th Jewish Disability Advocacy Day (JDAD). JDAD is a one-day event where Jews with disabilities and their allies convene on Capitol Hill to learn about relevant disability policy, raise awareness on disability inclusion, and advocate on current legislative priorities with their elected officials. By taking part in the Keshet Leadership Project, your agency will earn how to evaluate programs, policies, and culture, and identify areas for growth in LGBTQ inclusion, discover how to recognize opportunities/challenges for welcoming and affirming LGBTQ community members and create an achievable action plan.

Behavioral Health Services Now Included in Medicaid Benefits Database
|
The Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) has released an update to its annual
Medicaid Benefits Database
, which for the first time includes details on behavioral health services. Specifically, the
Medicaid Behavioral Health Services Database
includes data about the various mental health and substance use disorder benefits covered under Medicaid in states, notable limits on those benefits, and cost sharing requirements as of July 1, 2018. The research is a helpful guide for Medicaid officials, researchers, and advocates trying to understand the variation across states in Medicaid benefits.

The National Convening on Jewish Poverty, hosted by the Weinberg Foundation, will be a series of conversations among a diverse audience of experts on Jewish poverty, including researchers, direct-service providers, federation leaders, and philanthropists. The keynote panel will discuss the challenges of poverty throughout the US, and unique aspects of Jewish poverty. It will also assess the current research on low-income Jewish households and identify potential next steps related to national Jewish poverty. Interactive breakout sessions will focus on specific aspects of Jewish poverty.
