Ah, spring. Winter may have its charms, but there's nothing quite like the moment when the world begins to wake up from its cold weather slumbers.
NJIN is excited to begin this new season with our membership. We are planning new and exciting educational webinars as well as new lectures at our general membership meetings. At the March 20th general membership meeting, Dr. John A. Dodson, NYU Langone, will present: The Importance of Immunization Among People with Multiple Chronic Conditions - A Subspecialist's Perspective.

The United States continues to see an alarming number of new measles cases emerging, including here in New Jersey.
As of March 7, 2024, a total of 45 measles cases were reported by 17 jurisdictions: Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York City, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington.

COVID-19 and Flu - Current Epidemic Growth Status (Based on Rt) for States and Territories

This interactive tool from the CDC allows users to view the current COVID-19 and flu epidemic growth status for all US states and territories.
Key Points:
- As of March 2, 2024, we estimate that COVID-19 infections are growing or likely growing in 0 states and territories, declining or likely declining in 28 states and territories, and are stable or uncertain in 22 states and territories.
- As of March 2, 2024, we estimate that influenza infections are growing or likely growing in 9 states and territories, declining or likely declining in 20 states and territories, and are stable or uncertain in 19 states and territories.

Key Points (Updated March 8)
- An annual flu vaccine is the best way to protect against the flu and vaccination helps prevent infection and can also prevent serious outcomes in people who get vaccinated but still get sick with flu.
- Seasonal influenza activity remains elevated nationally with increases in some parts of the country.
- CDC recommends that everyone 6 months and older get an annual flu vaccine as long as influenza viruses are spreading.2 Vaccination now can still provide benefit this season.
- CDC estimates that there have been at least 28 million illnesses, 310,000 hospitalizations, and 20,000 deaths from flu so far this season.

Flu viruses are among several viruses that contribute to respiratory disease activity. CDC is providing updated, integrated information about COVID-19, flu, and RSV activity on a weekly basis.

Flu Warriors Festivals
NJIN has begun the process of planning several Flu Warriors Festivals for the Fall of 2024. Events will be held across the state of New Jersey and will target areas with large uninsured and underserved populations. Attendees will be provided with the opportunity to receive flu and COVID-19 vaccines along with educational materials on vaccine-preventable infectious diseases.
