Five Positions Are Vacant - Candidates are encouraged to submit information to run.

The elections will take place at Convention for the officer positions as well as the six Region Director Positions will be on the ballot for election at the 2019 New Jersey PTA Leadership Convention. There will be NO election for President. Cathy Lindenbaum will automatically become President on July 1, 2019.

How to self-declare Candidates who wish to self-declare for election to one of these offices must submit a signed Declaration of Good Faith form so that it is RECEIVED BY 30 days prior to the leadership convention (February 20, 2019). This must be sent to the NJPTA President (Rose Acerra), NJPTA Secretary (Kyra Swinney-Darby) and NJPTA Nominating Committee Chairman (Ginger Reinhold).

Below is the list of each item that candidates need to provide along with their Declaration of Good Faith .

A signed Declaration of Good Faith Form with resume.

A 500 word statement to be published in the Candidate Guide sent prior to convention and in the Convention Program and on website.

A digital photo to be used in the Candidate Guide, Convention Program & on the website.

It is hard to believe...but it is already that time of year to begin electing your Nominating Committee and determining slates of officers for 2019 - 2020 or beyond.

The 2019 - 2020 Nominating Committee and Elections hand book has been uploaded. Take the time to review and give to members that are ELECTED as your nominating committee.

STEM Grant Available

NJPTA is proud to provide local NJ PTA units the opportunity to apply for a STEM grant! STEM represents the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math and is an industry that is growing rapidly. To meet this demand, our goal is to educate our students and families in these areas and provide local PTAs the opportunity to support this effort by hosting your own STEM program.

What do you have to do to apply? Simply answer the questions at the link below.

What are the guidelines?

1. The event must be held between March 1st and May 31st

2. The program must be STEM related.

3. The grant awarded is up to $1100.

4. The application submission deadline is February 20th by 11:59pm.

5. The NJPTA Family Engagement Committee will review the submitted applications. Winners will be notified by February 28th.

6. Local PTA applying must be in standing.

7. Winners must respond with your STEM event details (date, time and place) to jgibbs@njpta.org at least two weeks before the event so that NJPTA board members can attend.

8. The local PTA must be a Title 1 school.

9. The local PTA must have never received a STEM grant from National PTA or NJPTA.

History of Valentines Day

Each year on February 14th, many people exchange cards, candy, gifts or flowers with their special "valentine." The day of romance we call Valentine's Day is named for a Christian martyr and dates back to the 5th century, but has origins in the Roman holiday Lupercalia .

In 1868, Richard Cadbury released the first Valentine's Day box of chocolates , followed in 1902 with the first conversation hearts from the New England Confectionery Company. In the 1840s, Esther A. Howland created the first commercial Valentine's Day cards in the United States.
