Needs a Strong, Collective Voice

Defending the rights of doctors of optometry to practice full-scope optometry is one of the most important roles of the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians. Read about our current efforts, and please help us find more local optometrists to join our professional family.

Advocacy Update 

Assembly Bill A-920 was heard on Thursday, March 14th in the Assembly Regulated Professions Committee and was successfully passed out of committee! Listen to the testimony here (A-920 is the first bill on the agenda). Click here to learn more about the legislation.

Continue to Support This Effort!

1. Share www.njtrustedeyecare.com with your peers, staff, patients, and friends to spread the facts about this legislation, and watch a 90-second video demonstrating how a laser procedure works.
2. Consider your relevant patients for this 2024 patient letter. Print the letter for your office, batch completed patient letters, and send letters to Keira Boertzel-Smith or via fax 609-323-4014 for our distribution to your district legislators.
3. Share anecdotes of patients who would benefit from the legislation. For example, a small business owner can’t afford to take time off work for additional ophthalmology appointments when she could have the procedure completed during a visit to her optometrist. Anecdotes can be shared here. 
4. Please connect with your local legislators and spread the facts about optometry. The NJSOP remains dedicated to fostering strong connections with legislators who champion the optometry profession and prioritize eye and vision care.
