Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

NK tried to silence Pastor Han; now his voice will be heard around the world

Filming is underway here in Korea this week on a short feature on the life and death of Pastor Han Chung Ryeol, as seen through the eyes of one of the many North Koreans he evangelized. Pastor Han was the Korean Chinese pastor martyred in Changbai, China on April 30, 2016.

Thanks to the vision and sponsorship of Cole Richards and our sister mission, VOM/US , John and Judy Grooters and Grooters Productions are here to make the 6 minute film. It will be shown around the world in commemoration of the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church the first Sunday in November. The Grooters produced the 2018 full-length feature film, Tortured for Christ , which tells the true story of Voice of the Martyrs founder, the Rev. Richard Wurmbrand. That film has won numerous awards, and if you’ve seen it you will need no explanation as to why.

North Korea sought to silence Pastor Han through a violent death, but now...

Pastor Tim's Prayer Points
  • Please pray for UT (basic discipleship school) student named Mr. H. He lives so far away from our office, that he must leave at 5am to attend UT. It takes him around 3 hours to come. And many years ago, his grandfather was a pastor in Pyeongyang. After finishing one quarter of our UT school he said,My life was full of suffering and hardship. I had 15 years of being a fugitive in foreign countries. After a decade of living in SK, I came to the conviction to say, “My worldview is good and mature, but now, my worldview has been reshaped again through the UT school. I do not fall asleep like I’ve done in other churches.” Please, pray for Mr. H to complete UT and serve the Lord as a missionary through our UU program. Pray that he would follow in the footsteps of his grandfather.

  • Please, pray for one of our current UT (basic discipleship school) students Mrs. K. Back in NK, she miscarried several times, but eventually gave birth to a daughter. However, in 1997 (in the middle of the Great Famine), her daughter was eaten by their neighbors due to intense starvation. One of our UU (missionary training school) students recalled the time of the Great Famine and said this: “Eating humans was not normal, but due to the severe famine and starvation, it was not unheard of.” Because of this shocking incident, she began to have serious depression and became addicted to alcohol. Recently, she began to attend the UT school and saw a glimpse of the true light of Christ. Pray for Mrs. K to grow in the Lord and live a life full of the hope of Christ the Savior.
