March Chapter Meeting: Living in Place

Our March Chapter meeting, hosted by Cosentino City at the A&D Building, was a well-attended panel discussion that really served as a "how-to" information session for kitchen and bath designers. Julie Schuster, Maria Stapperfenne, Dawn DeLuca, John O'Meara and Louie Delaware led a detailed presentation that answered all of the questions surrounding designing for accessibility, including its history and evolution in the United States, facts and figures to show its marketplace necessity and viability, the value it brings to the home, smart products that can be seamlessly integrated into home design, and how to make it all happen for your client within your current network of resources. If you haven't already seen the event photos, please check out the gallery on our Facebook page.
New Member Spotlight | Royal Green NYC
Royal Green Appliances , NKBA Manhattan's newest member, recently announced that it is opening a 3,000 sqare foot showroom in April 2018 in the landmarked Sun Building at 280 Broadway, also occupied by the New York City Department of Buildings. Affectionately known in Westchester by the name of its original owner, “Leiberts,” Royal Green has spent the last few years in an acquisition and expansion phase. The 60-year-old company has purchased several other smaller outlets while at the same time expanding its footprint at its base of operations in White Plains, NY.
“We have been exploring different opportunities over the last year or two,” said Rob Satran, one of the owners of Royal Green. “And every time my partners and I circled back to the idea of expansion, New York City always crept into the discussion. Eventually, we just couldn’t ignore it anymore.”
Staying true to the Royal Green ethos, the showroom was built with myriad features focusing exclusively on the trade. There are multiple conference spaces, large and small, open and private for continuing education unit classes, as well as room to take a break and grab a cup of coffee. “We recognize we’re now located in the New York City Department of Buildings.” concluded Stu Royal, president of Royal Green. “What better place for an architect or designer to come hang their hat or meet a client while waiting to file plans next door? We’ve created this showroom for precisely that experience.”

Connectivity is a word I hear quite often lately. The engineering of appliances, alarms, cameras, lighting, music, and even cars to be interconnected among our personal devices is quite fascinating. How we use this technology to design spaces that create comfort and ease for our clients is becoming more and more important. The program for our April 11 chapter meeting, hosted by B/S/H/ at their showroom in in the A&D Building, will offer a look at luxury smart homes and include a demonstration of Home Connect products and partner integrations. This special presentation is free to members and their guests, and we will have a drawing during which we will be giving away an Alexa in celebration of your connectivity with NKBA Manhattan.
Connecting with your fellow NKBA members has also never been easier. The ability to upload photos and a profile to the NKBA.org website makes it feel as though we are all only a click away from each other. I encourage you to visit the new site and upload your profile if you haven’t done so already.
Connecting and bonding with brands is another benefit that comes with your NKBA Manhattan membership. Be sure to ask a council member how you can get involved.
The ability to connect face to face with colleagues and peers will always be my favorite benefit of NKBA membership. Please consider bringing a guest that could benefit from networking with our group to the meeting on April 11. I hope to connect with you there!
ArchDigest Show 2018
A snowstorm on the first day of Spring did not stop the annual Architectural Digest Home Show at Pier 95 last week. Experiential exhibits marked a notable difference for the 2018 show, which saw a number of manufacturers taking a hipper, edgier approach with their visual marketing and branding.
NKBA Manhattan Chapter sponsors Benjamin Moore, JennAir, Monogram, Sub-Zero and Wolf and Thermador showcased their latest innovations for the premium home.

If you will be at the EuroCucina show this month, please be sure to check out Bosch, Gaggeneau, Fisher & Paykel and Sub-Zero and Wolf, who will be exhibiting at the show.
