L to R: Barbara Habermann, John Tudisco, Toni Sabatino, Barbara Kessler, Benoit Laroche, Julie Schuster
In October, the NKBA Manhattan Chapter gathered at the Fisher & Paykel Experience Center in the A&D Building for a conversation around designing for small kitchens. in a room filled with kitchen & bath professionals based in New York City, it was certainly a topic ripe for discussion and a challenge of creativity that we all know very well. Barbara Kessler , design development manager at Fisher & Paykel, led a CEU presentation focusing on current trends and how to address clients’ needs when specifying a small kitchen project. The course covered a number of solutions to consider that maximize utility, comfort and design. Chef Jennifer Jung prepared a beautiful spread for guests to enjoy. Design + Tech Connection Comes to New York City in December
Design + Tech Connection will take place on December 11, 2019, at Convene, 117 West 46th Street, NYC. The one-day conference, powered by the NKBA , KBB and CE Pro , will bring the brightest and most provocative minds from design, construction and technology together, to inspire collaboration and partnerships among brands, specifiers and installers.
“Residential consumers continue to demand more complex, seamless design integration in their homes,” said Bill Darcy, CEO, NKBA . “Our NKBA 2018 and 2019 Kitchen and Bath Tech Awareness & Usage market research studies confirm consumer desire and willingness to adopt better, faster and more complex whole-home integration systems. They are looking for trusted professionals from the design, construction and tech integration spheres to work closely together, for harmonious design and installation of these systems.”
Programming for this new conference is being developed with an eye toward educating interior design, kitchen and bath design and building communities about the speed at which the tech field is evolving, and how to smartly design residential spaces with confidence and authority.
Industry authorities including Darcy; Julie Jacobson, founding editor of CE Pro; Chelsie Butler, executive editor of Kitchen & Bath Business, and other industry experts will lead conversations, panel discussions and presentations on the Internet of Things (IoT), home automation, security, wellness-related technology, principles of good design integration and how to create a smart business partnership to deliver beautiful and functional residential spaces.

Open Call for the First Annual Luxury Kitchen Recycling Awards
Renovation Angel , a 501c(3) non-profit and the nation's largest kitchen, bath and furniture recycler, and the National Kitchen & Bath Association today announced the creation of the NKBA Renovation Angel Luxury Kitchen Recycling Awards. This partnership and awards program recognizes the astounding work done by design professionals nationwide who have made the commitment to be responsible renovators and choose to recycle kitchens (cabinets, appliances, decorative plumbing and surfaces) when possible, making the world more beautiful inside and out. The winners will be announced at KBIS in Las Vegas on January 22, 2020.
“Recycling kitchens is a win, win, win – for the homeowner, the designer, and the planet,” said Steve Feldman, CEO/Founder of Renovation Angel . “Every year over 50,000 luxury kitchens end up in landfills. That's 125,000 tons of waste. By donating your project to Renovation Angel , you're not only helping to save the planet, but you’re also helping homeowners save tens of thousands of dollars in tax benefits and removal costs.”
The awards competition is free to enter and is open to all kitchen designers, architects, contractors, interior designers and other industry professionals. The requirements are simple. Industry professionals should visit https://renovationangel.com/award/ and submit projects where at least 50% of the existing materials were recycled or donated. Projects must have been completed between January 1, 2017, and October 31, 2019. All entry packets must be received by 6:00 pm PST, Friday, November 22, 2019.
