Brooklyn, NY — Members of NKD and Brooklyn Can’t Wait Coalition have filed a lawsuit against Democratic candidates Larry He, Joyce Xie, and Joey Saban, all three of whom are running against Republican opponents in South Brooklyn. The lawsuit creates unnecessary division and risks helping their Republican opponents by forcing these Democrats to spend time and campaign resources responding to legal challenges from fellow Democrats instead of reaching voters.

For the last several years, the Brooklyn Democratic Party has invested in identifying, recruiting, mentoring, and supporting community leaders who reflect the neighborhoods they seek to represent. Through thousands of volunteer hours, door-knocking efforts, phone banks, canvasses, and grassroots organizing, we have helped build a pathway for candidates like Larry He, Joyce Xie, and Joey Saban to seek office and provide meaningful representation for their communities.

Attorney Mark Hanna, representing NKD-aligned interests, is pursuing legal action against fellow Democrats rather than helping unite Democrats around the shared goal of electoral victory. Every hour and dollar these candidates must spend responding to this lawsuit is time and money that could be spent reaching voters and defeating their Republican opponents.

"These so-called reformers have spent years creating chaos in a grab for power instead of building the Democratic Party," said a spokesperson for Brooklyn South Democrats. "At a time when Democrats should be fighting Republicans, they are targeting fellow Democrats. These tactics are divisive, disruptive, and undermine the democratic process by attempting to weaken candidates who have earned the support of their communities."

Despite these attacks, the Brooklyn Democratic Party remains focused on the work. Our volunteers have knocked thousands of doors, made countless phone calls, and built a strong field operation throughout South Brooklyn.

Last year, Joey Saban came within fewer than 300 votes of victory. In a race that close, diverting Democratic resources toward an internal legal battle can give Republicans an advantage. This year, we are more organized, more energized, and more determined than ever to move forward, overcome division, and win.

The Brooklyn Democratic Party proudly stands with Joyce Xie, Larry He, and Joey Saban and calls on Democrats across Brooklyn to join us in phone banking, canvassing, and organizing for victory.

Hands Off Joyce.

Hands Off Larry.

Hands Off Joey.

Let the voters decide.

Together, we will continue building a stronger Democratic Party, expanding our coalition, electing Democrats, and keeping Brooklyn blue.
