National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association Releases 2026 National Policy Agenda

WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, the National Lumber & Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) released its 2026 National Policy Agenda, a comprehensive advocacy platform that outlines key priorities for the lumber and building material (LBM) industry in the coming year. The National Policy Agenda (NPA) serves as NLBMDA’s principal policy roadmap, guiding our engagement with Congress, federal agencies, and the Administration. It provides lawmakers and key stakeholders with a clear articulation of NLBMDA’s positions across a broad range of policy areas affecting LBM dealers, including housing supply, workforce development, transportation, tax policy, and regulatory reform.

This year’s NPA highlights several significant tax policy victories achieved over the past year that helped preserve capital, promote reinvestment, and provide long-term tax certainty for LBM dealers. Through sustained advocacy, NLBMDA successfully worked with policymakers to enact pro-growth tax provisions relied upon by the industry. These outcomes underscore the importance of continued engagement on tax policy as Congress considers broader tax reform and the expiration of key provisions in the years ahead.

As with years past, housing remains central to this year’s National Policy Agenda. With Congress expected to take up housing legislation in 2026, NLBMDA’s NPA outlines a series of targeted recommendations designed to strengthen the residential construction market and improve housing affordability nationwide. As essential suppliers to the building and construction industry, lumber and building material dealers play a critical role in promoting homeownership, supporting new housing production, and modernizing the nation’s aging housing stock. At a time of continued uncertainty in housing markets across the country, NLBMDA emphasizes the need for sound fiscal and housing finance policies that bolster homebuyer confidence, expand access to credit, and spur new construction activity.

Looking ahead, the 2026 National Policy Agenda positions NLBMDA to proactively engage in key legislative and regulatory debates shaping the future of the LBM industry.  Click here to read the NPA.
