Registration Materials Pick-Up

Whova

Download the official mobile conference app and make the most of your time at NLC! As we get closer to the conference, you will receive an email (to the email identified in your NLC registration) to download and sign in to the FCCLA® NLC app, Whova. The app will be the go-to location for the most current conference schedule and other pertinent information.


Update Attendee Emails

At the time of registration in the FCCLA® Portal, every participant must provide their own unique email address to be used as their login to the conference app.


Duplicate email addresses are not permitted. Please ensure all email addresses are updated in the FCCLA® Portal.


Attendees are advised to use an alternate email address other than a school email so that they can access it over the summer. Providing a Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, or any other trusted email service provider would help ensure participants receive all NLC communications.


Volunteers

National FCCLA is still seeking volunteers for competitive events. Specifically, they need adults to assist on Friday. You can email competitiveevents@fcclainc.org or add it as an item to your meeting registration.

Please include your name on any messages sent or voicemails left. Outside of travel, this number only operates during typical work hours.

STAR Events

All participants will need to read the materials on the national FCCLA website and refer to the materials you have received from Nikki Pedloski, National Program Manager for Competitive Events. Information is posted on the national web site. If you have any questions, contact her at competitiveevents@fcclainc.org


Top 10 STAR Events Teams/Individuals that place in the top 10 of each event/level will be recognized on stage during the National Recognition Session. Information regarding the top 10 will be sent to the chapter advisor’s email on Saturday evening and posted in the Whova app.

Please Note: Information is tentative and subject to change. 


Important Finalist Information: 


  • The top 10 finalist list will be sent to competitors and added to the website and app by Saturday, July 2 at 5:00 PM Pacific Time. 
  • Finalists must report to the holding room between 7:45 AM – 8:30 AM (Exhibit Hall H) on Sunday, July 3. Finalists not in the holding room and checked in by 8:30 AM will NOT be permitted on stage. 
  • Students will NOT be permitted to send a stand-in if they are finalists and have left the conference before the session.
  • Should an absent student be named one of the top three winners, their plaque can be shipped to their school at their school's expense


State STAR Event Recognition NEW THIS YEAR Texas will have its own recognition session for STAR Events. All medals will be distributed at this session. If you do not pick up your medals, they will be returned to National FCCLA and taken back to National HQ. You will need to contact them to get them shipped to you.


Rubrics Rubrics will be returned following the conference in an electronic format.

  • FCCLA red blazer
  • Professional white or black shirt
  • Neckwear options can include the neckwear from the official emblematic supplier, black or red tie, black or red bow tie, single strand of pearls, red black, and/or white scarf, or no neckwear
  • Black bottoms (slacks, skirt, sheath dress)
  • Shoes (black preferred)
  • Jeans, t-shirts, athletic wear are NOT acceptable

STAR EVENT PARTICIPANTS

STAR Events participants are expected to adhere to the published dress code. For participation in competition, follow event specifications for dress, and wear appropriate clothing for the nature of the presentation. If attending conference activities prior to or immediately after a presentation, be prepared to change into clothing that meets the conference dress code.

Advisor Checklist

Read this information carefully and thoroughly so that you can maximize your overall conference experience

  • Covid regulations change frequently. Stay up to date by following the National FCCLA Conference page. It may be beneficial to bring facemasks in case rules change while we are away.
  • Schedule a meeting with all conference attendees.
  • Discuss expenses and help students determine how much spending money they will need for food, entertainment, and souvenirs.
  • Meals are not included in the conference registration fee.
  • Many places in San Diego are cashless, please have a plan for students that may only be traveling with cash
  • Review the dress policy and discuss appropriate clothing to take.
  • Determine any allergies, physical disabilities, or limitations that any of your students may have. Notify national headquarters at meetings@fcclainc.org of any disabilities that may require special services as soon as possible prior to the conference.
  • Be sure that all release forms are signed which may be found here: https://fcclainc.org/attend/national-leadership-conference/health-safety-information
  • Review travel plans with attendees. Where appropriate, provide parents and/or guardians with an itinerary and important telephone numbers.
  • Emphasize the importance of participating in the conference activities to the fullest extent. Schedule a meeting onsite after you have picked up registration materials to review the conference program in detail.
  • Bring copies of your original conference registration and housing confirmations for each to the conference.

National Officer Candidates

Amie Ann White and Madison Brian will be representing Texas as NOC’s, but violating the guidelines as a member, advisor, or supporter could result in elimination of their candidacy. Please be welcome to support them through this journey, but in a respective way. 


This means no “vote for ___” or swaying opinions of any attendee, speaking badly upon other candidates, etc. 


Feel free read the policy below: 


National Officer Candidates and/or their supporters may openly share that the candidate is running for a national office and may address the candidate’s qualifications both verbally and in writing (e.g. social media). National Officer Candidates and/or their supporters must never make disparaging statements about another candidate.


General Sessions

There will be assigned seating for Texas at the Opening General Session. A seating chart will be provided in all delegate registration packets. Ushers will also assist attendees with locating their state seating assignments at all general sessions and STAR Recognition sessions. Look for the Texas state flag and the delegation in the assigned area that will be given to us at the meeting.

Texas State Meetings

Attending these meetings is very important as updated information will be shared, STAR Event participants will be recognized and state voting will take place. This is for ALL Texas Delegates.

  • Sunday, June 30: 9:45-10:45.m. – SDCC Exhibit Hall F&G (in same room as General Session)
  • Friday, July 1: 5:00-5:30p.m- SDCC Exhibit Hall F&G (in same room as General Session)

HEALTH & SAFETY

EMERGENCY MEETING LOCATION

Arrange a meeting spot inside and outside of your hotel in case of any emergency incidents that may arise for your chapter.


NAME BADGES

Name badges are required for every event/meeting in the convention center, including our state meeting. Lost name badges will incur a fee for replacement.


TRAVEL TO MEXICO

Do not go to Tijuana, Mexico. We do not advise anyone to exit the US and travel insurance purchased will not cover any incidents outside of the USA.


HUMAN TRAFFICKING is REAL

Be aware of your surroundings at all times. Always travel with a buddy, this includes adults.


ACTIVE SHOOTERS

National has hired police officers and dogs for security


COVID

Requirements surrounding COVID can always change. It may be beneficial to pack a face mask for each attendee.


EMERGENCY INFORMATION

Emergency Information on the back of name badges. All safety and emergency instances MUST be reported to the National Director, Sandy Spavone AND State Advisor.  NO EXCEPTIONS!! This is for your safety and the safety of others.

What to Wear


Tuesday, June 28:

**Travel to San Diego: 

  • Delegates flying should travel in an FCCLA t-shirt and appropriate capris, pants, slacks, or appropriate shorts (no shorter than fingertip length). 
  • The group will load the bus from the airport and go directly from the airport to our private California Beach Party at Belmont Park, so please make sure you are dressed appropriately and have any items needed out of bag prior to boarding the bus.
  • You will not have access to your luggage until arriving at the hotel later in the day.
  • Towels will not be provided. Admission to the amusement park also not included.

 

Friday, July 1: 

Sunset Dinner Cruise: 

  • Wear the Texas national meeting t-shirt (provided to group attendees) and appropriate jeans, capris, or shorts (no shorter than fingertip length).


Travel from Anaheim to your home:  

  • Wear an FCCLA shirt and appropriate jeans, slacks, or capris. 
  • Officers travel in uniform.

Flights

All tickets are ELECTRONIC. You will not have paper tickets. You will go to the airport ticket counter and check in. You will need a driver's license or passport. Students/Adult passengers over the age of 18 are required to have a government issued ID.

General Information and Procedures


Airline Tickets: All of the tickets have been issued as electronic tickets. Your flight schedules are enclosed. You need to check your luggage before boarding the airplane. Seats have been assigned where ever possible. In some cases, the airport will have to assign seats. Southwest does not pre-assign seats.  Please make sure your bags are checked all the way to San Diego, Ca. Please check your flight schedules in case there have been changes on flight times. You will need to arrive at the airport at least two hours prior to flight time. AA, DL, and UA are charging for checked luggage. You should limit yourself to one checked bag and one carry-on.


Baggage: Each individual is responsible for his/her own luggage at the airport. Baggage service may be obtained at the airport and hotel but must be taken care of individually. It is everyone’s responsibility to insure their luggage departs the hotel on the same bus with themDue to limited space on the motor coaches please limit your bags to 1 piece of checked luggage and 1 carry-on bag. (Maximum 50 LBS)  


Transfers: All transfers and tours in SAN will be handled by “US Group Planners” 415-578-2482.  Upon arrival please proceed to the baggage claim area where you will be met by a representative. They will be holding a sign with TEXAS FCCLA on it.


Check-In/Check-Out: Check-In: Texas is spread among 5 different hotels. This year, everybody will have to check in to the hotels at the front desk.   Please make sure you have signed up for the Texas NLC Remind account (per the Texas FCCLA Release) for instructions. Please have only the advisors pick up room keys.   Check-in time for the hotel is 4:00PM, but we been advised that the some of the hotels may be totally sold out the night before we arrive, and it may be some time after this. Check-out time is 11:00AM. Please be sure to clear any incidental expenses at the hotel and be ready to depart promptly at your scheduled departure time.


*Partial Schedule of Activities:

Saturday June 28: Arrive in San Diego, Ca. Upon arrival please proceed to the baggage claim area where you will be met by a representative from “US Group Planners”. This is also your tour Guide. Please look for the Texas FCCLA sign.

After taking care of your luggage at the carousel area, you will board a deluxe motorcoach for your Tour to Belmont Park for your beach Party, before transferring your hotels. 


Please be aware that you may have a short wait time if we are waiting on another flight to arrive. Some arrivals are being combined for transfer purposes. After arriving at the hotel, you can check your luggage with the bell stand, until the rooms are ready.


Friday July 01 5:30PM: Sunset Dinner Cruise

Coaches will start loading outside of the Convention Center at 5:30PM.

Return to the hotels around 10:30PM


Monday,  July 04 Travel home

Departure information was sent by Manny. Please refer to that for transportation back to the airport.
