NLLD's Dwayne Bourgeois Makes Presentation to Bayou Industrial Group at June 14 Luncheon
NLLD Executive Director Dwayne Bourgeois, Terrebonne Levee District Executive Director Reggie Dupre and South Lafourche Levee District General Manager Windell Curole gave a joint presentation to members of the Bayou Industrial Group at the organization's June 14 luncheon.

With the 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season beginning June 1, the levee directors recapped the destructive storms that came ashore along Louisiana's coast in 2020 with limited impacts in coastal Lafourche and Terrebonne, due in part to the significant levee and drainage improvements made in the area in recent years.

The leaders also updated the business group on current and recently completed projects along local levees and flood control structures, the Morganza to the Gulf Hurricane Protection System and the Houma Navigation Canal Lock to protect the Bayou Region this hurricane season and beyond.

Bourgeois kicked off the presentation with a graphic displaying NOAA's predictions for the 2021 hurricane season, with three to five major hurricanes currently projected during an above-normal active season. (See graphic below.)
FEMA Releases Preliminary Flood Maps for Lafourche
FEMA has released new preliminary flood maps for Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes that depict the projected risk of flooding throughout the area.

You can view the preliminary flood map for your home or business at https://msc.fema.gov/portal/home

NLLD Executive Director Dwayne Bourgeois and other local leaders have pushed FEMA in recent years for maps that more accurately reflect the flood control benefits of local levees and other projects that reduce flood risk and, ultimately, keep flood insurance rates in check.

A review and appeals process will be conducted before the maps are finalized. NLLD and parish officials will be reviewing the new preliminary maps in the weeks ahead to determine if revisions are needed.
