President’s Report
Since the last meeting of Provincial Executive, the President participated in several events and attended meetings in his capacity as President, including participating in two Beginning Teachers Conferences, the Kids Eat Smart AGM and a number of school events. The President spoke with several media outlets, including a feature length interview with CBC On the Go regarding violence in schools and a number of interviews related to a weather incident in Corner Brook. Association Priorities
Updates on the NLTA Priorities for 2023-25 were provided to the Provincial Executive. The priorities are: Workload Concerns; Membership Well-being and Protection; Collective Bargaining and Services for Members; Retention, Recruitment and Resources; and, Advocacy on and Response to Government Initiatives. Business from Standing Committees
Table Officers
- The NLTA policy on Collective Bargaining – Membership Voting Requirements and Procedures was amended to reflect electronic voting.
- The 2024-25 Electoral Committee has been appointed. The members are Paul Sheppard (Chairperson), Stephanie Lawlor-Menchions and Jessica Rose.
- The NLTA will provide $500 to CTF-FCE/Education International to support teachers and students in Palestine.

Substitute Committee
The next NLTA Collective Bargaining Committee will consider for inclusion in the opening package for the next round of negotiations a proposal to have substitute and replacement time count as seniority for non-permanent teachers applying for replacement and permanent positions.

Teachers Think Tank
Provincial Executive received an update on the upcoming Teachers Think Tank event, which will offer an opportunity to discuss issues and challenges in the K-12 public education system and help identify solutions that can be actioned in the short-term to improve working conditions for teachers and enhance retention and recruitment efforts.
