Your Provincial Executive met in St. John’s on January 30, 2026. Executive Notes is a summary of discussions and decisions that occurred at this meeting.

President’s Report
Since the last meeting of Provincial Executive, the President has participated in several events and attended meetings in his capacity as President, including a meeting with Premier Tony Wakeham and Education Minister Paul Dinn, a School Board Teacher Liaison Committee meeting and a CAPTTO Board meeting. President Lambe also participated in a Branch Leadership Seminar in Deer Lake, a presentation to the MUN Rural Cohort program and attended the CPF Administrator of the Year Awards. The President gave several media interviews on various topics, including outlining the Association’s 2026 priorities and retired substitutes. The full President’s report is available here.

Association Priorities
Updates on the NLTA Priorities for 2025-27 were provided to the Provincial Executive for review, questions, and comment. The priorities are: Workload Concerns (including Class Size, Composition, and Allocations); Services for Members (Protection, Well-Being, and Collective Bargaining); Retention, Recruitment, and Resourcing; Solidarity (Engagement, Education, and Communication); and Advocacy on and Response to Government Initiatives. Table Officers
- Executive Members Kelly Loch and Anegla Dawe will attend the Canadian Teachers’ Federation Women’s Symposium.
- Executive Member Della Way will attend the CPBI National Conference.

Membership Benefits and Services Committee
Five Pre-Retirement Seminars will be held, in accordance with Association Policy, during the Fall of 2026 in the following locations: Deer Lake, Gander, and three in St. John’s. The dates and sites will be determined by Programs and Services, subject to hotel and presenter availability.

Executive Motions
The following motions were carried by Provincial Executive:
- The NLTA will respectfully request that the employer designate one day per school year for a dedicated meeting or professional learning session for all Student Support Services (SSS) Department Heads and Lead IRTs (Provincial). The NLTA will further request that this day include participation from a representative of the Department of Education to ensure accurate, up to date information is shared directly with school based leaders.
- The NLTA will update the website to make it more user-friendly for members to find information.
- The NLTA will lobby government to properly resource the inclusion model for the betterment of student learning and teacher/student well-being.
- The NLTA will regularly provide Executive with updates on the number of retired teachers in term positions and vacant positions as part of discussions under the Retention, Recruitment, and Resourcing priority.
- The NLTA will proceed with replacing the 2-year term Administrative Officer position with a permanent Administrative Officer position, contingent on a budget adjustment approval at the March 6, 2026, Joint Council meeting.

Discussion Topics
The following topics were reviewed and discussed by Provincial Executive: semesterized schools and timelines/policies; TLAs and TLASS training; retirement seminars for substitute teachers; permanent substitutes; investment awareness; advisory motions from Joint Council; and the Negotiating Team.
