NLTA EXECUTIVE NOTES

Your Provincial Executive met in St. John's on October 17, 2025. Executive Notes is a summary of decisions and discussions that occurred at this meeting.

President’s Report

Since the last meeting of Provincial Executive, the President has participated in several events and attended meetings in his capacity as President, including meetings related to Teacher Certification, the Child and Youth Community Health Model and a CAPTTO Board Meeting. President Lambe also participated in the MUNSU Day of Action Rally, the launch of Kids Eat Smart Week, and the Teacher Librarians SIC Conference. The President gave several media interviews on various topics, including the CBN Wildfire Donation Drive and the Education Accord. The full President’s report is available here.

Association Priorities

Updates on the NLTA Priorities for 2025-27 were provided to the Provincial Executive for review, questions, and comment. The priorities are: Workload Concerns (including Class Size, Composition, and Allocations); Services for Members (Protection, Well-Being, and Collective Bargaining); Retention, Recruitment, and Resourcing; Solidarity (Engagement, Education, and Communication); and Advocacy on and Response to Government Initiatives. Provincial Executive Meeting Minutes

Business from Standing Committees

Table Officers

Going forward, a special meeting of Provincial Executive will be held within the first week of a provincial election writ period (or earlier if needed) to discuss information and strategy related to the election.


T
he NLTA will donate the following:

  • $7,500 to the Kids Eat Smart Foundation NL to support their programming for 2025-26.
  • $2,000 to help establish Abeer’s Little Library at the Janeway Hospital.
  • $500 to Egale Canada to support their advocacy work around Alberta’s Bill 27.
  • $100 to the Spectrum Queer Choir for the Unison Festival.

Communications, Membership Engagement and Political Action Committee

The NLTA will explore the possibility of developing a policy on the use of Artificial Intelligence for Association work.

Finance and Property Committee

A budget adjustment was approved to implement BGM 2025 Resolution FL2 for recommendation to Joint Council regarding funding for alternate delegates from all branches to attend BGM 2027.

Executive Motions

  • The NLTA will lobby NLSchools and the Conseil scolaire francophone provincial de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador to establish a policy ensuring that students with special needs have timely and appropriate access to all necessary resources and Student Assistant/Instructional Resource Teachers (SA/IRT) supports upon their transition to a new school.
  • The NLTA will lobby the employer to provide leave upon request for the purposes of entering data into Review 360 portal

Discussion Topics

The following topics were reviewed and discussed by Provincial Executive: Review 360, vacant positions, lack of substitutes/retired substitutes, Memorial University enrollment and its Rural Education Program, guidance positions, modular exams, report card prep day, Secure School Policy, school supply list, School Lunch Program, SSNL, modified prescribed courses and the database, lack of resources/support/low morale, TLA job application, fall PL sessions, violence regarding dysregulated students, determining a retired teacher; and international students
