For Immediate Release
August 17, 2020

St. John’s, NL... Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association President, Dean Ingram will provide a prepared statement and be available to the media at 2:00 pm, Monday, August 17 at the NLTA building to respond to the NLESD Return-to-School Plan.

The NLTA Provincial Executive and Special Interest Councils were given the opportunity to provide information, raise concerns and offer feedback to the NLESD as the District’s Return-to-School Plan was being developed. Unfortunately, during that process, the Public Health safety guidance for schools was obviously contradictory to the Public Health directives and expectations in place for the general public, businesses, events/activities, other government services and organizations. It is the Association’s understanding that the NLESD has received new Public Health guidance, and we hope this will address the contradictions so parents, students and teachers can feel confident in a safe return to school.

The NLTA is releasing 42 questions that have been raised with Public Health officials to date, along with a summary of the verbal responses received during a video-conference meeting with Dr. Janice Fitzgerald.
