NMA hosts East Northumberland Secondary School
Grade 12 students specializing in manufacturing, culinary and entrepreneurship spent the day with the NMA and its innovative partners. Students got the chance to
hear from industry leaders, take a plant tour at Graphic Packaging and learn about the amazing careers and opportunities in Northumberland. We couldn't have been more proud to share our successes and to engage our youth like we've never done before.
The NMA hopes this model of introducing our youth to careers in manufacturing will be implemented across both school boards in Northumberland throughout 2020.
A special thank you to our partners who helped make it all happen!

Commuting in Northumberland
MPP David Piccini reached out to the NMA requesting information on our manufacturing employees work commute. He is currently reviewing a GO Bus pilot with local Mayor's and stakeholders.
Thank you to those members who provided us with data on their employees locations and commutes.
We found:
of 1000 employees, 50% live in Northumberland but not in the town they work, 25% live in the town they work, 25% were from outside Northumberland.
The NMA is proud to be at the table to discuss and influence the planning of transportation and the movement of our employees in our County.

Calling all NMA HR Professionals - We want to hear from you!
In 2019, the NMA had success in helping manufacturers overcome some workforce development challenges - such as recruitment and retention. The NMA provided tools or launched initiatives such as the website job board and the recruitment video MakeWorkBetter.
We would like to know if you are having the same challenges for 2020? Should the NMA run it's recruitment video for another few months to recruit to our area, would you like us to host roundtables to have a more informal discussion and share best practices?
We are asking our HR professionals/Management for some direction and feedback on where you'd like the NMA to focus its efforts in regards to workforce development for 2020.
Please see the survey link below - any feedback you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
