4 Easy Ways to Save Time on Student Portfolios
If your program uses portfolio assessments to document student progress, you know how much time gets eaten.
You’re writing down your observations, taking photos, adding them to a bulky portfolio (which you can probably only do during your prep time—so much for lesson planning), and doing it again nineteen more times.

It is with great sadness that we must announce the departure of our accreditation consultant, Katie Montiel. Unfortunately, Katie needed to step back from her position with NMAEYC due to family medical issues. Her newborn son, Josiah, was recently diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Hurler's Syndrome. Katie's main focus is now on Josiah, as it should be. Katie's family now has a long journey ahead of them to keep Josiah healthy so they can spend as many years as possible loving him. This will be a very expensive and time consuming journey, which is why Katie had to step down as our accreditation consultant.
With that said, we are sharing Josiah's GoFundMe page. If you can, please help by donating to Katie's family so they may cover Josiah's medical expenses. He requires weekly enzyme replacement infusions at an out of state medical facility and will hopefully qualify for a medical trial.

Making Time for Tinkering: A Playful Pathway Toward STEM Learning
When children tinker, they learn essential STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) concepts through natural play and investigation. Tinkering with materials that foster engagement with scientific phenomena allows learners to explore new pathways and ideas, which in turn helps them gain new knowledge and skills. While tinkering, learners are invited to embrace a mindset of experimentation in their own learning journeys. It’s an intentional and reflective process that promotes STEM learning through playful exploration.

Connect, Deepen, Extend: Creating Meaningful Science, Technology, and Engineering Learning Experiences
Young children are curious and highly motivated to make sense of the world around them. Beginning at birth, they
behave like scientists and engineers. Preschool and kindergarten teachers can support these natural tendencies by recognizing and taking advantage of the many meaningful science, technology, and engineering (STE) learning
opportunities that surround children at school, at home, and in their communities.
