Great last week of MAP testing underway! 6th and 8th graders are taking Language Usage, along with 7th graders who are taking a science MAP test. We will also do makeup tests for reading and math from prior weeks. See the article below about MAP test scores and how they correspond to EXPLORE test and K-PREP.

Our Great American magazine sale fundraiser is underway! This is our MAJOR fundraiser that we ask all students to do and we hope your student can participate. If he/she isn't a door-to-door salesperson, send your family and friends this link, www.gaschoolstore.com, enter our school code: 644914, and list your student as the student to get credit for the sale--EASY! The fundraiser will run through September 5!

Student Council elections will be held this Friday during A/A.

We are still selling NMMS Inner Ninja Hero t-shirts if you would like to purchase one, $10 at lunch.

We sent home the white District Health Information sheet with all students last week. Please return those to your student's first period teacher as soon as possible--Thank You!

Please mark your calendar for September 19 from 5:30-7:30. We cordially invite your family to our Annual NMMS Family Night! We will have food, lots of fun, and an opportunity for you to log in to your child's ILP and to learn a little more about that. We hope to see you then!

The Infinite Campus Parent Portal is OPEN! If you do not remember your password, or if you are new to the portal, please contact Ms. Sturm. The portal is a great tool to see all of your student's attendance, grades, and assignments. You can also access the portal from a smartphone.

Some of you have been asking about Edline, the new teacher website program we talked about at Open House. See the article below!

Now all students are expected to be within dress code to avoid losing points. You may see the dress code policy here electronically. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have questions.

Holiday World Reward Trip and Points Pyramid details can be found here. Please review with your child so there will be no surprises in May.

If you like Tech Home Tuesday, please share it on your social network! The bar at the top of this email will get you started--Thanks!

Student Behavior and Pickup Information

We want everyone to come out and enjoy all of the activities that our students are involved in! It is a great opportunity to be supportive and meet new people.

Please be advised of MCHS policies that affect middle school students.

Regarding student behavior, if a student exits the front gate of an event for any reason, they will not be allowed back into the event. This is a safety concern and they are unable to be supervised while they are not within the confines of the event, i.e. in the parking lot, tennis courts, etc. If you are not accompanying your student to the event, please have this conversation with your student.

Likewise, regarding student pickup following any high school sporting event, students should be picked up within thirty (30) minutes of the end of the event. Any student that is still waiting at this time may be transported to the Sheriff's Office and they can be picked up there by a parent.
First Lego League Tryouts

The First Lego League Tryouts are Thursday August 29,  3-4 P.M. or Thursday, September 5, 3-4 P.M.

Students interested are invited to:

A) Sign Up outside Mr. Kunnecke's door for EITHER date (but not both).

B) Students should pick up the 1 page FLL application sheet at that time or print it from the Robotics Club website.

C) Students should return the application, signed by parent at that time.

Final Choices of new members will be posted Monday, September 9th. Those who make the team will start practicing on Tuesdays in September until 4:30.

Spring Break 2014
NMMS Takes Europe... Again!

In case you have not heard... Spring Break 2014, NMMS is heading to Europe again!  We are doing Ireland, Wales, and England. Three countries in 9 days!  Parents can come, too. The cost is $3,015 for students and $3,250 for adults. (This price is good through the end of August. So you just have ONE MORE WEEK to sign up before the price increases.)  The travel company also sets up monthly payment plans. The cost covers pretty much everything but your suitcase and your passport!  We will do some fundraisers along the way to help offset the cost. If you would seriously consider coming with us and want me to keep you informed, simply email me and I'll add you to the list.
If you decide to go, the enrollment fee is $95, and it locks in the above price if you enroll by the end of August.  You can always enroll later, but the trip will be more expensive.
To enroll right now, call:  1-800-665-5364.  (Trip Code: 1348805) or visit http://www.eftours.com/preview-tour.aspx?gt=1348805
For more information, email Cheryl Jackson at [email protected] or visit North Marshall's website and click the Ireland link.

New Central Elem Bus, 014
Affects some NMMS students

A new school bus route has been added to Central Elementary School and will take in parts of the current routes run by buses 021, 064, and 092.  This is being done to make the delivery of students to and from school more efficient and to reduce some crowding on the routes listed.  Beginning Monday, 8/26/2013, bus 014, driven by Cindy Jones, will be picking up and delivering students in the following areas that previously rode the following buses:

  1.  Bus 021                       Students on Highway 1422 between Moors Camp Highway and BethelChurch
  2.  Bus 092                       Students on Moors Camp Highway between Highway 68 and Highway 1422
  3. Bus 064                       Students on Highway 68 between Draffenville and Moors Camp Highway, students on Denver Lane, students on Husting Lane, and students in Vicksburg Estates.

Cindy Jones, driver of bus 014, can be reached at 395-9917.  If you have any questions or concerns you can call the Marshall County Bus Garage at 527-7102.

MAP Scores and College/Career Readiness
EXPLORE Test Linking Study

MAPNWEA College Readiness Linking Study examines the predictive relationship between students' RIT scores on MAP assessments and the college readiness benchmarks of the EXPLORE, PLAN, and ACT achievement tests. Using the results of this study, educators can predict performance on these assessments' reading, English or math tests based on students' corresponding MAP scores in reading, language usage, and general math.

We shared this information with 8th graders about their RIT scores:
