Summer Fun in New Milford Photo Contest

Show off your photography skills! Capture the vibrant moments, local events, and everyday joys that make summer in our community special for a chance to win prizes and be featured in our gallery. Whether you’re a hobbyist or a seasoned photographer, we invite you to share your unique perspective. Submit up to two original photos (printed 8″ x 10″) along with a completed entry form—available at the front desk or on our website. (Click on the flyer to be linked to the info on our website.) Don’t miss your chance to join the fun—entries are due July 31, with winners celebrated at our gallery opening on August 22. Let’s celebrate summer together!

Let's celebrate America's 250th with a New Milford Cookbook full of YOUR family recipes!

Find your favorite family recipes and let us know what category they are. We’re looking for authentic family recipes. The cookbook will be published in August for purchase. Proceeds will go to the Friends of New Milford Library. The library reserves the right to choose which recipes to publish.

We will be collecting recipes through June 26. Please send in your recipes by email at: adultreading@newmilfordlibrary.org

Or bring the recipes to the library and hand them in at the front desk! Any questions? Call 860-355-1191 ext. 4216

A Message From Our FRIENDS of the Library

school_dog.jpg

June keeps us all busy with celebrating Father’s Day, Juneteenth, graduations, and weddings. In addition, it is Pride Month, Great Outdoors Month, and June 8th is World Oceans Day. Many families are preparing for summer vacations or - as we cringe at gasoline prices and airport miseries –staycations. Whether you’ll be enjoying fresh mountain air, sunny beaches, or your own back yard,

stop by Friendly Finds to stock up on books to help you relax and unwind this summer. A selection of “Beach Reads” awaits – a variety of paperbacks priced at just $.50 each. Also highlighted during June will be a collection of cookbooks (think barbecues and picnics), books about baseball, and in a more serious vein, military history.

Thank you to all who patronized our big sale in May. The next one will be August 7th and 8th. Proceeds from our book sales are used to fund museum passes and a wide variety of programs at the library. You get to enjoy the books and the benefits! Cash, check, and Venmo are accepted. We gratefully accept donations of books in good condition that you no longer need or want. Volunteers will be at the back entrance of the library every Saturday from 9:30 until Noon for assistance. (You can also return books that you previously purchased from the FRIENDS!) To learn more, visit our website at www.FONML.com or e-mail us at FONML001@gmail.com

We need your help! Knit or crochet hats, mittens, scarves and lap blankets to give to NM Social Services. Your simple act of kindness in the creating and giving of something handmade can bring a little warmth, comfort and joy to each recipient.

Call the library 860-355-1191 and ask for Jody for more information.

NMPL's Museum Passes

Reserve Museum Passes

New Milford residents can now reserve museum and cultural passes on our website. Reservations can be made up to three months ahead of time. You may also visit the library and check out an available pass. Out-of-town residents can also come into the library and check out passes. Special thanks to the Friends of NMPL for sponsoring these passes. Remember that these passes are loaned for three days only.

Action Wildlife in Goshen

The Action Wildlife Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to animal conservation and providing a distinctive interactive experience that is unparalleled in New England. Our pass allows up to six individuals to enter at a reduced rate of $10 per person.

The Carousel Museum is a non-profit organization that preserves and exhibits antique and modern carousel art, and celebrates dedicated craftsmen, to inspire creativity, joy, and wonder. With your library passes, you receive free admission for up to four visitors. https://www.thecarouselmuseum.org/

Art Displays

The library is hosting Robin Le's, "Celebration of Color" exhibit from May 29-July 9. Le’s work explores movement, emotional energy, and inner strength through layered abstraction and expressive figurative elements. She creates paintings that balance spontaneity with intention, using color, texture, and gesture to build surfaces that feel active and alive. Within abstract environments, she often introduces women and animals as symbolic presences representing resilience, intuition, and momentum.

Library of Things

The library has so many things you can borrow--like board games to play before you buy them as gifts! Plus, the library has Spanish language-learning games, too. Check it out!

Hoopla Flex and Instant Borrows!

NMPL offers both Hoopla Instant and Hoopla Flex titles to patrons. What's the difference?

Flex Titles vs. Instant Borrows on Hoopla

Flex titles are digital items your library has purchased, often including newer releases and bestsellers. These may require placing a hold if they’re currently in use, and you can even suggest titles for the library to add.

Instant borrows come from Hoopla’s own collection and are always available with no waiting. Keep in mind that even if you’ve used all your Instant Borrows for the month, you may still have Flex Titles available. To save time, try using Advanced Search to quickly find what you need.

A recent addition to the BingePass offering, SeasonPass extends this access to select full TV seasons with a single borrow. Patrons can explore new series or revisit a favorite, all with no waiting.

SeasonPass includes a wide range of TV content from BBC Studios, PBS Distribution, and other partners, with genres such as thrilling crime and mystery series, docuseries, dramas, period pieces, comedies, and educational shows—with more on the way in the coming months.
