Summer Internship Program

Wishing Our Interns Farewell - Summer Recap

During the month of July, our 2025 NMSHSA Summer Interns got to do an MSHS cite visit in Adam's County, Virginia and two farm tours with Adams County Nursery Inc. and Quality Greenhouses Perennial Farm. NMSHSA sends a special thank you to East Coast Migrant Head Start Project for coordinating this visit and for providing transportation! We also thank Pathstone Corporation for the opportunity to visit their MSHS center and for connecting us with the surrounding farms for a tour of where our MSHS parents are working!

This summer, the interns made the most of their time in DC by seizing every opportunity and during one of their events, they were able to meet U.S. Senator Alex Padilla from California, along with Congressman Raul Ruiz from California, and former Congressman Tony Cardona from California. We are proud of them for making their voices heard to people in power and hope that these moments sparked a fire of inspiration in them!

As July came to a close, so did the internship, but before saying goodbye to our interns, we had a dinner with them, graciously hosted by our Policy Consultant, Alison Feighan, from the Feighan Team. We shared an evening of gratitude as we gathered with each interns' host family. NMSHSA sends a huge thank you to Alison and her Husband, Steve, for opening their home to us, for cooking a delicious dinner, and for providing wisdom and support to our interns. We also thank all three host families who took in our interns this summer! This program would not be the same without your love and support for our interns! Your home makes a huge difference in the internship experience for the students who join us every summer, so we want you all to know how deeply we appreciate your contribution to this program!

Lastly, we thank their internship placements for taking them under their wing and providing impactful work for them to be a part of. The success of this program comes from places like United Farm Workers, the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators, and UnidosUS who create a space for our interns to learn and grow either in the field they are pursuing or in a field they never thought they’d find themselves in!

If you feel as though you have not gotten enough of the interns, make sure to visit our website to read all 6 of their blogs or head to our socials for a closer look into their summer through the videos and story takeovers they did!
