Hello Members,

We have a few events coming up in May and June and I hope to see you there.

On May 16th, we'll have our first NMUCA Social at Bosque Brewing on Eubank. At NMUCA Socials, we have a board meeting then invite members for a drink and light snack. It's free to attend and is about talking and visiting with no formality.

We have two events in June, our annual picnic at Isotopes Park and our Safety Award, Zia Partnership, and Scholarship presentation lunch.

If you would like to be a sponsor for NMUCA Night at Isotopes park, see the link below. (May 15 Deadline)

USDOL Issues Final Rule for FLSA Exemptions Effective July 1, 2024: Proper Worker Classification Under the New Rule

May 9, 2024 10:00 AM  in  Mountain Time (US and Canada)

Description

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has issued its Final Rule to increase the minimum salary requirements for the “white collar” exemptions (executive, administrative, and professional) from minimum wage and overtime pay requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The Final Rule sharply increases the minimum salary level for the white-collar exemption to apply. The increase will take effect in two stages over six months.

These numbers are higher than what the DOL previewed in its August 2023 proposed rule. And they represent a significant jump from the current $35,568 salary level for executive, administrative, and professional employees, and the $107,432 minimum compensation level for highly compensated employees.

Join us, as we explore these upcoming changes, which will have substantial implications and impacts across industries and command employers’ attention. Employers need to be prepared so you will be able to properly classify employees as exempt or nonexempt, under the new FLSA overtime Rule.

This webinar will also go through in-depth the proper way to classify your employees as exempt vs. non-exempt based on the current FLSA regulations. We will show you how to ensure compliance with current FLSA overtime rules, including the current and new FLSA regulations, and explain the changes that employers need to understand and comply with. We will also review various state laws that go beyond the FLSA exemption tests, so you can properly classify your employees working in those states.

National Safety Stand-Down To

Prevent Workplace Falls

Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for 395 of the 1069 construction fatalities recorded in 2022 (BLS data). Those deaths were preventable. The National Safety Stand-Down raises fall hazard awareness across the country in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries.

The NMDOT seeks to reduce the number of pedestrian and bicyclist crashes in New Mexico, and to encourage walking and biking as comfortable, accessible, safe and efficient modes of transportation. To successfully reduce New Mexico’s pedestrian and bicyclist injury and fatality rates, at-risk populations need to be identified and their safety needs addressed. The NMDOT/TSD participates with the implementation of the Statewide Pedestrian Safety Action Plan working with community members and pedestrian injury stakeholders to identify and address specific local pedestrian safety problems.
