A Look Back & A Look Ahead

Jessica Bearman, NNCG Steering Committee Chair

Dear NNCG Community -

Welcome to 2024! We are looking forward to an action-packed year and wanted to take this moment to reflect on a few highlights from the past year and look ahead to what’s coming up for all of us.

We are extremely excited to share NNCG’s new mission statement below - which emphasizes the power of community and our commitment to a more equitable sector:

A community of consultants that builds knowledge and skills to support an equitable, impactful, and vibrant philanthropic sector

Maritza Guzman, NNCG Steering Committee Vice Chair

Other 2023 Highlights:

  • We launched the Leading with Equity Institute, funded by the Ford Foundation. Nine field experts led explorations of multiple dimensions of identity and equity with more than 20 consultant participants.
  • Our 211+ members supported more than 2,000 grantmakers and donors in the field.
  • NNCG continued to support the specific learning needs of consultants to grantmakers through a robust calendar of webinars, workshops, and networking “virtual cafés.” In 2023, we had 97 members and 135 non-members participate in these programs.

Looking forward, we are excited about the year to come.

2023 Leading with Equity Session Highlight: Bringing Disability Justice to Life

Faculty: Risa Rifkind

The disability community often shares the motto of “nothing about us without us.” But what happens when we’re still left behind, especially those of us who live at the intersection of multi-marginalized identities, including disability?

The disability justice principles implore us to create space for leadership from those who are most marginalized, to value all bodies, and to work on cross-social justice issues for collective liberation. This session explored how we can bring these principles to life in our everyday decision-making practices, into our strategic plans, and more.
