NNFHT Food Drive...Competition
This year we will be having a competition to see which sites at NNFHT can gather the most food donations to give to local organizations (Community Care, in St. Catharines and Newark Neighbours in NOTL)!!!
|
Community food drives like ours help ensure children and their families can get emergency food assistance when they need it. One grocery bag of food can provide as many as 11 meals. Every single donation helps, and together we hope our combined donations will make a real difference for those in need.
|
VIRGIL/NOTL SITE PATIENTS:
To make a donation, look for the Newark Neighbours Donation Bins located inside the foyer of the Niagara Medical Centre (Virgil Site) clinic at 1882 Niagara Stone Road in Virgil. All donations from patients at BOTH the Virgil site AND the NOTL Hospital Site should bring their donations directly to our VIRGIL SITE LOCATION (where the donation bins will be located).
|
ST. CATHARINES SITE PATIENTS:
To make a donation, please go to your Family Doctor's office and look for the Community Care Donation Bin.
|
|
*NEW* Mask Policy being implemented at NNFHT
|
|
Hospitals and clinics are moving away from homemade masks or face coverings and asking patients to wear medical masks. NNFHT asks that if you have an in-person appointment at the NNFHT to please wear a medical mask while visiting.
If you do not have a medical mask, one will be supplied to you.

A reminder to all patients that here in Niagara we are in the middle of the second wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
We are doing everything we can to continue to serve you during these challenging times.
The risks that COVID-19 present means that the majority of patient visits have and will continue to be done virtually either over the phone or using a video visit.
This means that most non-essential visits will not be booked in person and/or some regular scheduled non-essential bookings may be delayed.
If your healthcare needs cannot be met over the phone or over video, it is at your healthcare provider's discretion to bring you in to the office.
When coming in to the office please listen to the instructions of the staff and provider to ensure you will be seen safely.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation during these challenging times.

SINGLE SESSION COUNSELING SERVICE AT NNFHT
|
|
Did you know that as a patient of the NNFHT you have access
to our Single Session Counseling Service?
Wondering what 'Single Session' means...?
One morning every week, some of our Mental Health Counselors are available for SAME-DAY appointments.
The focus of an appointment is determined by each client’s unique needs.
Whether coping with a challenging situation, inquiring about services, or looking for an understanding or non-judgmental ear, our mental health counselors are trained to help clients find their personal path forward in a direction that aligns with
what is important to them.
During the COVID-19 pandemic we are
offering virtual Single Session appointments (phone or video).
St. Catharines Site patients can contact Laura at 905.988.9617 x226 by 8:45am on Wednesdays for an appointment that morning.
Virgil/NOTL Site patients can contact Jennifer at 905.468.2177 x130 starting at 8:45 am on Fridays for an appointment that morning.
Appointments are first come, first served.

USE STRONG AND UNIQUE PASSWORDS/PASSPHRASES
-
Make your passwords at least 10-12 characters long. The longer the better. Longer passwords are harder to crack
- Security experts are now recommending a “pass phrase” rather than simply a password
-
Include numbers, capital letters and symbols in your password
- Use more than one password. If you reuse your passwords, a hacker can take the leaked data from one attack and use it to login to your other accounts.
- Don’t post your passwords in plain sight. Your computer monitor, desk or bulletin board is not a good place to record your passwords.
- Never give out your password to anyone
|
|
DON'T FALL FOR PHISHING SCAMS
- Be very careful before clicking on a link (even if it appears to be from a legitimate site) asking you to log in, change your password or provide any other personal information. Links can be fake and lead you to malicious sites. Type in the web address yourself. When in doubt call the bank or other company that sent you the email.
- Don’t respond to anyone who tells you your computer is infected with a virus even if they claim they’re with Microsoft, Apple or your internet provider.
- Don't download apps that look suspicious or come from a site you don't trust.
- Always be wary of offers that sound too good to be true, or ask for too much information.

ARE YOU READY TO QUIT SMOKING?
|
|
DID YOU KNOW....
- 20 minutes after your last cigarette, your blood pressure and pulse rate return to normal
- 2 days after stopping smoking, your senses of smell and taste begin to return
- 1 year after you stop smoking, your risk of heart disease is cut by one-half
- Within 3 years after you quit, your risk of heart disease is the same as someone who never smoked
- Within 10 years after quitting, your risk of lung cancer is cut in half
|
|
The New Year is a great time to set goals and make positive lifestyle changes.
The NNFHT Smoking Cessation team can provide smoking cessation counseling to patients who are ready to quit smoking!
Through the CAMH Stop Study patients are eligible for NO-COST Nicotine Replacement Therapy (patches, lozenges, gum, etc).
This service is not limited to NNFHT patients. No referral required.
