NNJR-SCCA February Region Updates
Regional Executive Update
By Peter Schneider
As we look forward to spring and dig out from the winter storms that have been effecting our area, the Region has not been dormant. The Region is looking ahead to returning to Pocono in 2021 by hosting a Majors Road Race over the Memorial Day weekend, a Pro-Solo at the Meadowlands on the weekend of May 7 – 9th, and our first National RoadRally in almost 30 years – The New Jersey Monte on October 10th.

We are please to announce that NNJR-SCCA was awarded the 2020 Regional RoadRally Achievement Award at the SCCA 2021 National Convention. Read More.

If you have not had a chance to attend one of the many virtual SCCA National Convention Session over the last three weeks, do not be concerned, the majority of them have been recorded and are available to be viewed on the SCCA Convention Website. Just register, and visit the website to view the sessions at you leisure. There is a full range of topics, to choose from.

The region's first event of the year will be a car rally/tour of the New Jersey Highlands in association with the NJ Highland Coalition. on April 11th, starting at High Marques Motors in Morristown. This will be a family friendly event, featuring some great roads and the heritage of the state, which can only be found in New Jersey.

Road Race Announcements
Memorial Day Weekend May 28 - 30th

At the February Board of Trustee meeting, the Board confirmed our region's commitment to return to Pocono Raceway for the 2021 season.

The event is currently on the SCCA National and NeDiv Majors Schedule.

Terry Hanushek and Dave Hofmann have agreed to lead the region's efforts for 2021 with the assistance of Butch O'Connor as Chief Steward and support from Darrell Anthony and Chris Mosley.

For those of you that do not know Terry, he is a dual member of NNJR and SJR as well as a National Licensed Race Steward and Race Administrator. Dave is currently a member of SJR and was active in NNJR in the past; he was a Race Chair for NNJR events several years ago. Butch O'Connor was NNJR Race Chair the last time we were at Pocono in 2017 and will be the Head Race Steward in 2021.

Needless to say the event will be subject to Pennsylvania State Covid-19 restrictions and will be in full compliance with SCCA guidelines.

Terry will build on the work he and Brandon Fetch did for the 2020 event which was canceled due to Covid restrictions. Terry and Dave will focus their initial efforts in six areas: Administration (Budget, Sanction and Supplement Regs), Staffing, Equipment, Track Liaison/Contract, Covid-19 Protocols and Track Configuration/Layout.

As more information becomes available, updates will be provided to the Region's membership.
Solo News
Important announcement regarding helmets. This effects Road Racing, Autocross/Solo, Time Trials & Tracks Days.

"SJR-SCCA has been in contact with the New Jersey State Police Racing Unit regarding the use of Snell SA/M 2010 helmets for the 2021 season, especially due to the delay in 2020 Snell rated helmets.

The NJ State Police are sticking to their original “expiration date” and will no longer allow the use of 2010 helmets."

While the SCCA has its own rules regarding helmets, the NJ State Police have the final say on all regulations at race events throughout the state.

RoadRally Update
Highland Spring Trek - Save this Date
April 11, 2021
On April 11, NNJR-SCCA will be hosting a tour of the highlands, the event will start at High Marques in Morristown and end at the boardwalk in Sparta for great social distancing interaction. The event is being conducted in association with the NJ Highland Coalition.

Per the Skyland Visitor's web site, Trail Of Historical Sites Tells A Remarkable Story About Industry and Invention in the Garden State.

There is a thread of heritage and industry that began in the New Jersey highlands centuries ago, before America officially started. If you know about it, a ride on the interstate becomes a little more interesting as you approach the hills on the horizon, passing through corridors cut through the earth. And turning off onto a county highway becomes a tour through some of the richest history in America when you really know where you are.

Registration is still open for the
2021 Virtual National Convention
It may look different, but it’s never been easier (or more cost effective!) to attend the SCCA National Convention.

This year, Convention sessions will be held over the course of a month, beginning January 23 and continuing with sessions through February 19. Better yet, it’s at no cost to SCCA members, and sessions can be picked and chosen by which are most valuable for each attendee.

NEDiv Update
The SCCA Northeast Division has released the 2021 schedule of events.

This schedule includes Super Tour and Majors, as well as the NE Regional and Divisional Series events. Also listed are schools and track events, Hillclimbs, as well as the Time Trials schedule.
