Celebration of Life - Bruce Bellom

NNJR Region membership and the SCCA National Staff is saddened to hear of the passing of Bruce Bellom. [Bruce joined NY Region in 1991 and moved over the NNJR in 2011]

From Howard Duncan: "Although I cannot honestly say that Bruce and I were close friends, his passing has had a profound impact on me as I always thought of Bruce as being “invincible” and someone I immensely enjoyed hearing what he had to say, whether as an announcer, discussing a safety matter, or a general discussion on the state of affairs in the Solo community.

While he could easily come off as perhaps a stereotype of the tough cop, there was a kindness and thoughtfulness to him that I always appreciated as he often offered up sage advice. I was sadly unaware of Bruce’s battle with CV19 and had been looking forward to seeing him at one of the National Solo events in the Northeast this year.

I will definitely miss the opportunity to once again have great conversations with Bruce and I will have to let memories fill that void."

For those in the vicinity, the arrangements are scheduled for Saturday from 2-8 at Nardone's Funeral Home: 414 Washington Street
Peekskill, NY 10566

In honor of Bruce, NNJR is raising money for Peekskill Rotary Club Foundation, Inc., in Bruce Bellom's name. He was heavily involved with this foundation, and was on his way to being president. Let's show our appreciation for Bruce as he has shown to all of us. Link

NNJR-SCCA will be hosting a on-line event for the Celebration of Bruce's life on Saturday March 13th at 7pm. Details are available here.

Memorial Day Weekend May 28 - 30th

The event is currently on the SCCA National and NeDiv Majors Schedule.

The Region is set to return to racing at Pocono Raceway for the first time since 2017. Since then, two seasons were lost to unresolvable scheduling conflicts and last year our race had to be cancelled due to the COVID. This year we have a clear track to resume racing at Pocono.
The course we will use for the 2021 Pocono Freedom Majors races is the Combined North-South Road Course. After the 2015 infield repaving, this configuration has become the preferred course for SCCA racers. It consists of the road sections of the North and South courses, NASCAR Turn 2 and sections of the Long Pond straight and the Pit straight. This course is completely separate from the East Course which permits a concurrent event to be run during the racing.
This year’s event will feature an SCCA Test Day on Friday, qualifying and points races on Saturday and feature races on Sunday. SCCA will have a Track Night in America event on Friday evening. NNJR will join the Northeastern Pennsylvania Region to conduct an Autocross/Solo on Saturday and a Track Sprint on Sunday using the East Course. Four separate events in one weekend.
Since the Region has not run a road race event in four years, Race Chairmen Terry Hanushek and Dave Hofmann are in the process of ‘Putting the band back together again’ in Blues Brothers speak. They have started to contact the chiefs and key workers from the 2017 event. We are also looking for experienced workers and volunteers new to the sport who are interested in road racing to staff the event. If you are interested, please contact Terry (856 237-3566) or Dave (717 579-0968).
Current plans anticipate the schedule and supplemental regulations being available at the beginning of April. More details to follow.

2021 Tire Rack SCCA New Jersey ProSolo
May 7 - 9, 2021

The TireRack SCCA® ProSolo® Series is an adrenaline-pumping autocross format where solo isn’t solo. Drivers still run a course by themselves, but start off side-by-side drag racing style and attack mirror-image courses to see who gets back to their respective finish lines first.

In contrast to a standard 3-run autocross, ProSolo class competition takes 1.5 days where each driver gets three sets of runs to put together the best run from each side. Class winners are determined from putting the best right and left side runs together.
