NNJR Receives Community Environmental Award

It’s not often that an environmental group gives a motorsports group an award – but the two are not necessarily at ends with each other. SCCA’s Northern New Jersey Region (NNJR) found that out on Oct. 12, 2022, when the New Jersey Highlands Coalition (NJHC) presented NNJR with one of its annual awards.

We thank them for their contributions to the SCCA Team Endurance Program.

32th Annual Toys for Tots Charity Rally

For the past 32 years, SCCA-NNJR has been hosting this annual event. Over $27,500 in toys have been donated to the United States Marine Corp Reserve toy drive since the 1st Teddy Bear Rally in 1990. SCCA-NNJR's Toys for Tots roadrally is the longest continually run charity event conducted by SCCA.

This year's event will be a two-and-a-half hour novice orientated course rally. It will utilize written instructions and photo clues to determine the trophy winners.

This is not a timed event. Your score will be determined by your ability to follow the course correctly and identify the scenes depicted in the photo clues.

No hard to see or tricky questions to answer.

The entry fee is a new stuffed animal or unwrapped toy of $35.00 value or greater. While stuffed animals will be accepted in 2022, unwrapped toys are preferred.

THINKING ABOUT GOING TO THE SOLO NATIONALS JUST DO IT! By Mike Kobialka

2022 Solo Nationals was awesome! It only took 15 years to get out there, but I finally get it. If you’re even thinking about going just do it! It’s not just a national tour with a ton of more people, it’s the most fun you’ll ever have autocrossing, and an experience you’ll never forget.

The site is massive! Literally took 4 minutes in a golf kart to cruise from one end to the other. Watching fighter jets take off never got old and with all the food vendors on site I never got hungry. The walking taco was slammin’

Racing at The Bridge
– A Documentary

By Jeff Becker - SCCA-NYR

For those of us who remember the Bridgehampton Race Circuit (which is probably all of us) there is a fantastic new documentary that was released at the recent Cars and Coffee in Bridgehampton on September 18.

Glory Days at Bridgehampton – The Thrilling History of Car Racing in the Hamptons is the culmination of a multiyear project by the Bridgehampton Racing Heritage Group in cooperation with the Bridgehampton Historical Society and made possible in part by donations from Robert Rubin to document 80 years of road racing in the Hamptons with particular emphasis and great historical footage of the 1950’s street races in Bridgehampton and the race circuit we all loved so well.

Cars and Coffee at Bridgehampton is an annual event held at the Bridgehampton Historical Society Museum every September and if you have never been it is worth a visit just for some of the truly amazing cars that show up such as this new Delage from France and an electric version of the classic Alfa Romeo Giulia as well as notable older cars. Every year the BRHG has an exhibit on the rac track and this year it was highlighted by the above-mentioned documentary, which any of you who remember the track will want to see.

The film is not yet released but can be viewed at the Society headquarters in Bridgehampton. It too is worth the visit. But call ahead to make sure they are open.
