A message from the President

As we find ourselves in warmer spring weather, this is such an exciting time. We are less than 2 months away from our first in-person NNS meeting in 3 years! I personally am so invigorated by the idea of getting to see each other, learn about cutting-edge neurotrauma research, and engage in conversations in-person. And although I feel the Society has grown and expanded in many ways over the last 2 years, nothing beats seeing each other face to face.

Along those lines, please remember that the Regular Registration deadline for the Symposium is May 15^th. Also remember to reserve your hotel room at the beautiful Westin Peachtree Plaza in downtown Atlanta. The program for our 39th Annual Symposium is packed with fantastic scientific sessions, including keynote speakers, plenary sessions, abstract data blitz sessions, poster sessions and mentoring events. Grace Griesbach and the Program Committee, along with Mechthild Walter and the ICS conference team, have put together a program that truly spans from bench to bedside, from acute care to rehabilitation, across the lifespan, and includes a balance of brain and spinal cord injury research. 2022 Awards

WiNTR VISA Application Deadline: May 15, 2022

The application deadline for the TEAM WiNTR Visa award is less than two weeks away!

This award provides an opportunity for national or international collaboration by subsidizing both travel to the National Neurotrauma Symposium and a brief period of research training/collaboration in a sponsor's laboratory. This award supports the mission of TEAM to promote gender equality in neurotrauma research to learn new skills or techniques pertinent to their research project.

This award covers roundtrip airfare to the NNS meeting and sponsoring laboratory, registration, abstract fee, lodging, and meals, up to $5,000.

Rising Star Award

Submission deadline: May 25, 2022

The Rising Star award aim is to facilitate NNS meeting attendance for scientists within 5 years of completing postdoctoral or residential training. This award will be given to an applicant that has made a significant contribution in the field of TBI/SCI within the past year. Review submission details here...

Rosalind Franklin Award

Submission deadline: May 25, 2022

This award aims to recognize a female researcher that has made a notable scientific contribution in the field of neurotrauma and has made recent impactful contributions to education, mentoring or advocacy. Application for this award may be submitted by an NNS member applying for themselves or nominating someone else. Apply here...

2022 Council Elections

It is almost time to vote

The election period to vote for 2023 NNS Council members is May 16 - June 27, 2022. All active NNS members with a Standard membership will receive an email containing online voting instructions on May 16. The official slate of candidates can be viewed here. Please register as a Standard member to receive a voting ballot.

Membership Committee update

The NNS Membership Committee has been working hard behind the scenes! Our primary goal is to promote and enhance both new memberships and renewals to the Society, by planning and executing events and opportunities of benefit and interest to members. Some of these benefits were highlighted via social media posts and email blasts sent out in the lead-up to the NNS 2022 Symposium registration, which resulted in a spike in new and renewed memberships. Virtual Roundtable Discussion - Exclusive Membership Access

The Membership Committee is hosting a panel and roundtable discussion targeted toward exploring the various careers in neurotrauma including clinical research, law, and industry. Our expert panelists will highlight the various paths in neurotrauma including experiences of coming into their respective careers from different backgrounds. Please join us for this members-only event on May 9^th at 6:00 pm EST via Zoom.

TEAM Committee update

Join us for TEAM events in Atlanta!

The training, education, and mentorship committee (TEAM) is enthusiastic about bringing back all the things you expect and more at NNS 2022.

Speed Networking: Trainees –if you are seeking specific advice, looking for new ways to promote your research, or wanting to expand your network, then this event is for you! Speed mentoring will take place on Monday, 6/27, from 6:15-7:15 PM. Event locations will be announced closer to the conference.

2nd Annual Mentor: Mentee program- NOW TAKING APPLICATIONS: Last year, we had 22 mentor: mentee pairs from 6 different countries with participants from undergraduates to senior faculty. Interested in participating? Then sign-up here! The deadline for applications is May 27th. Mentor: Mentee pairs will be announced prior to the NNS conference. There will be a Mentor: Mentee Social on Sunday, June 26th, from 4-5 PM, immediately before the annual NNS welcome reception for the inaugural year and upcoming pairs to meet in person! 2022 NNS 5K Fun Run/Walk

Throughout the month of March, the Advocacy Committee hosted our second annual virtual 5k Fun Run/Walk. We were thrilled to have had so many participants this year - Thank you to all who participated!
