Dear Friend of NOFA-NH,

Welcome summer! With blueberries, garlic scapes, zucchinis and more making their way to market, our plates are certainly full of local goodness these days. We hope that you have been enjoying the delicious bounty of the season and all the fun that summer has to offer! If you're looking to fill your plate further, check out the newly published Merrimack County Conservation District's 2023 Local Food Guide and get ready for NH Eats Local Month this August!

NOFA has many exciting seasonal offerings for our farm and food loving friends, from our new Farmer Intensive Workshops, to August CRAFT sessions, TOPP events with the Cheshire County Conservation District, and An Evening of Blueberries and Celtic Music at Grounding Stone Farm (which has been postponed due to thunderstorms in the forecast - more on that below). We hope to see you there, and at NOFA's 49th Annual Summer Conference, happening online and in-person at Worcester State University July 24th - July 29th. This year's summer conference invites us to spend a week engaging with farming technologies, practices and thoughts around good, vital and just living for all at the community scale!

While last year Granite State growers faced extreme drought, this year farmers are combatting frequent storms - in some cases floods - and with that a whole different set of challenges. One thing is for certain, the weather in NH and across the world is getting more extreme, and that trend is likely to continue. One way you can support farmers and climate during these uncertain times is to continue to advocate for a 2023 Farm Bill that supports small, family owned organic farmers and demands climate action. Your support and letters to Congress are vital to this cause!

Stay dry friends, and happy growing!

Yours in Good Health & Healthy Food,

Team NOFA-NH

An Evening of Blueberries & Celtic Music POSTPONED

We have made the difficult decision to POSTPONE an Evening of Blueberries & Celtic Music at Grounding Stone Farm due to thunderstorms in the weather forecast on both Thursday, July 13th, and our initial rain date of Sunday, July 16th. We are working hard to find a new date that works with performers and vendors. Please visit www.nofanh.org/funonthefarm for updates. You can reach out to our Education Program Coordinator Kyle Jacoby at kyle@nofanh.org with questions!

Strategies for Growing Potatoes on Small and Medium Sized Farms

Thursday, August 24th, 4:00-6:00PM

Partner: Vital Communities

Over 80 varieties of vegetables and fruits are grown at Mink Meadow Farm. One of those crops is potatoes, and the farm has worked hard to develop a system that works well for small to medium sized operations to produce a quality yield. This workshop will provide an overview of the potato growing system in place at Mink Meadow Farm and strategies for implementing similar systems in your situation. Attendees are welcome to share their own potato growing strategies to create a collaborative environment where we can all improve our growing operations.

2023 Farm Bill: Fundraiser Update, NOFA Priorities & Action

Thank you to everyone who donated to our Farm Bill Fundraiser this past June. Together, we exceeded our goal of $15,000, raising $21,384. These funds will go directly to making your voice heard at the state, regional, and federal level as NOFA-NH continues to advocate for a 2023 Farm Bill that:

1. Invests in and protects the integrity of organic and agroecological practices as a core solution to our climate and biological crises.

2. Ensures fair treatment and just livelihoods for farmers and workers throughout the food and farming system.

3. Invests in rural communities, increases fairness and resilience of local and regional supply chains and breaks up consolidation in agriculture.

4. Centers racial justice across all programs and repairs past and ongoing racialized harm.

5. Promotes food sovereignty for disadvantaged communities and ensures nutrition security for all.

6. Eliminates the use of toxic substances on farmland and in our food system while supporting a just transition for farmers.

Read more about NOFA's 2023 Farm Bill Platform here.

You can help create a more equitable, climate-resilient, and community-based food system by asking your Members of Congress in the U.S. House and Senate to support the priorities put forward by farmers and advocates in the northeast for the 2023 Farm Bill.

Fill out this form to send an e-letter to your representatives co-signing your support for the below bills. Through extensive outreach to our members and farmers, organic farming associations across the Northeast have identified these as crucial inclusions in the 2023 Farm Bill.
