The NOMADS are on Campus!
We are so thankful for the NOMADS and their willingness to serve Midwest Mission through hard work on our campus.
According to their website, NOMADS (Nomads On a Mission Active in Divine Service) “demonstrate God’s love through their work and by listening to the people with whom they work.” Teams of NOMADS travel around the country, serving organizations by doing construction, remodeling, and repairs.
Every year, a team of NOMADS comes to Midwest Mission for three weeks to assist with larger-scale projects. This year, their task was the dorm.
| |
Our dorm, which can house up to 32 people, was built in 2001. Its original wooden siding was ready to be replaced.
The twelve NOMADS were ready and excited to take on the project of putting metal siding up on the dorm. They also assisted with groundskeeping, mowing the lawn, and power washing and sealing fencing.
On Friday, August 30, the staff and volunteers thanked the NOMADS for their time through a celebration with pizza and ice cream! It was a wonderful time to hear their stories, and learn about all the places they have traveled and worked. What great role models for what it means to be the hands and feet of Christ!
We look forward to having one more week with them, as they finish up their projects.
Here is a “before” and “during” picture. We will share “after” pictures in the coming weeks!

Midwest Mission Serving Sunday + Beyond
Midwest Mission Serving Sunday is just over two weeks away, and it’s not too late to get involved!
We believe that serving together brings people together. Many of us have experienced this in some way before – working together on teams, going on mission trips, even group projects for school.
What stops us from doing this right where we are, for the good of others?
There are easy, affordable, hands-on mission projects that will meet needs around the world, while uniting your community.
Midwest Mission Serving Sunday is Sunday, September 15. We’d love for you to join us by jumping into a service project on or around that day.
You could hold a collection for needed items (see our current needs or kit list), collect items ahead of time and assemble them into kits on your service day, or maybe get some sewers together and make handmade items. The options are limitless, and there is something for everyone no matter their age or ability.
| |
We are also offering a few on-site events, if you’d like to celebrate the joy of service during one of our serving events.
-
Blessing Bag Pack at Midwest Mission (Pawnee, IL) — Thursday, September 12 from 5-7pm, and Friday, September 13 from 12-4pm. Learn more here.
-
Bucket Brigade at Midwest Mission Iowa (Jefferson, IA) — Wednesday, September 25 from 3-7pm. Learn more here.
Whether you’re serving on Midwest Mission Serving Sunday, or any other day of the year, our prayer is that your community is revitalized and reinvigorated by working together for the good of others. Being the hands and feet of Jesus comes in a variety of ways, but the impact is the same — people feel the love of Christ when we show His love in a practical way, and their lives are changed because of it.
| |
This week, pray that those around us and our global community would put their hope in only the Lord and that those waiting on Him to come through would feel His miraculous presence.
“I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. .”
- Psalm 130:5
