Dear local League presidents and state action team leaders,

It is with great pleasure that we announce the inaugural state level leadership development program, the Sara Werder League Leadership Program (SWLLP). Our new board member, Pat Plummer and her team, have modeled it on Collier County’s successful program. It is designed to identify and train members from throughout Florida for future leadership positions in the state League. The many challenges and opportunities to empower voters and defend democracy require the state League to seek out the exceptional and diverse talent of our Florida members so we can optimize our impact. Florida, with its diverse population and dynamic political landscape, offers both incredible challenges and unprecedented opportunities for our organization. To optimize our impact, we recognize the need to seek out and cultivate a cadre of leaders who reflect the rich tapestry of our state. The program is designed to increase understanding of League leadership and management, major policy issues, and League advocacy at the national and state level.

Participants may be nominated or self-nominate. Nomination is completed by filling out the enclosed application which is due no later than October 24, 2023. Notification of appointment to the SWLLP will be announced on November 3, 2023. Selected participants will commit to a series of five sessions focusing on leadership in nonprofit organizations, Florida state governance and legislation, the LWVFL and LWVUS organization, functions, key priorities, issues and actions.
