THE GEOFF NOTKIN COLLECTION OF METEORITES

A SIGNATURE AUCTION EVENT

Heritage Auctions, June 22

Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Customers:

It has been a good few years since I, myself, wrote an issue of the Aerolite Newsletter. I used to love doing the monthly "A Message from Geoff," but as the company has grown (thanks to your support), my time was needed for a variety of other far-reaching projects including writing, filming, production, research, and, of course, meteorite hunting. My excellent colleagues Beth (President of Aerolite) and Mel (Senior Writer and Researcher) and the rest of our team have taken over and produced the newsletter with great success. Thank you for being one of our readers!

I have major news: After the better part of 30 years searching the surface of our planet (and sometimes its insides too), I am parting with my personal meteorite collection. In an interview with science writer Jim Tobin for "Meteorite Times" I talk in detail about my motivation. But, in short, I want this collection — which is my life's work and which I have enjoyed for so many years — to now go out into the world and be enjoyed by others.

The June 22 Heritage Signature Auction features the best of the best meteorite specimens I have found, traded, or acquired over the past 28 years. It also includes some highly prized "Meteorite Men" memorabilia: my personal rock pick and compass, a director's slate (clapperboard) from Season Three, my beloved Fisher F-75 metal detector with which I found more meteorites than any other machine, together with significant finds we made on the show. And this auction is not just about me; it's also about organizations and people I care about. Part of my proceeds will be donated to the children's charity Beads of Courage and the science museum and educational institution Texas Through Time.

Here are the major points I'd like to share:

• Heritage has produced an exquisite 154-page full-color print catalog of the auction. Copies are complimentary to our newsletter readers. Request yours here (please order soon as they are about to ship).

• The main landing page for the auction includes some wonderful videos we shot with the Heritage production team. Of special note is a video tour I took with Heritage Nature & Science Director, Craig Kissick, through the Oscar E. Monnig Meteorite Gallery in Fort Worth — an institution with which I have a long and special association.

• The auction is currently open for bidding. You can view all lots HERE. Please note that most of the pieces are offered with no reserve!

• The main auction event is Wednesday, June 22, at noon Central Time but you can bid online anytime. This will be an actual, live auction at Heritage HQ in Dallas with all options available: in-person, online, and telephone bidding. Registration and general auction info is HERE. You may register and place bids online anytime until the close on June 22. I will be in Dallas in person for the reception, previews, and live auction event (see below).

• I will host a VIP reception and a "walk and talk" tour of the highlights of the collection on the evening of Tuesday, June 21, in Dallas at Heritage HQ in the gallery. If you are in the Dallas area, or willing to travel, you are warmly invited to join me. Please register with us here to be placed on the VIP invitation list. Previews are June 20, 21, and the morning of the 22nd. See auction info page for times, address, and other details.

It is very important to note that this auction consists of my personal collection only, and Aerolite Meteorites will continue, as we always have, to search the planet and bring you exceptional meteorites and related collectibles with caring customer service and expert advice.

I hope you enjoy the catalog and the beautiful photos and historical and background information that Heritage has provided. I very much hope to see some of you at the reception and the auction! I can promise you a memorable event. And if you are bidding, I hope the piece you desire most makes its way to you ... and that it brings you as much joy as it has brought me.

With warmest wishes to all, yours respectfully,

Geoff Notkin
