THE GEOFF NOTKIN COLLECTION OF METEORITES
A SIGNATURE AUCTION EVENT
Heritage Auctions, June 22
Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Customers:
It has been a good few years since I, myself, wrote an issue of the Aerolite Newsletter. I used to love doing the monthly "A Message from Geoff," but as the company has grown (thanks to your support), my time was needed for a variety of other far-reaching projects including writing, filming, production, research, and, of course, meteorite hunting. My excellent colleagues Beth (President of Aerolite) and Mel (Senior Writer and Researcher) and the rest of our team have taken over and produced the newsletter with great success. Thank you for being one of our readers!
I have major news: After the better part of 30 years searching the surface of our planet (and sometimes its insides too), I am parting with my personal meteorite collection. In an interview with science writer Jim Tobin for "Meteorite Times" I talk in detail about my motivation. But, in short, I want this collection — which is my life's work and which I have enjoyed for so many years — to now go out into the world and be enjoyed by others.
The June 22 Heritage Signature Auction features the best of the best meteorite specimens I have found, traded, or acquired over the past 28 years. It also includes some highly prized "Meteorite Men" memorabilia: my personal rock pick and compass, a director's slate (clapperboard) from Season Three, my beloved Fisher F-75 metal detector with which I found more meteorites than any other machine, together with significant finds we made on the show. And this auction is not just about me; it's also about organizations and people I care about. Part of my proceeds will be donated to the children's charity Beads of Courage and the science museum and educational institution Texas Through Time.
