NOVAPower Boosts the Community

I am proud to be part of an organization that changes lives. 34 years ago, Geoff
Brown founded this club as a non-profit and brought high quality swimming to
Central Virginia. Tens of thousands of individuals have benefited from NOVA's
superb programming over the years. Yes, we are a top competitive team in the country - but we are much more than that. We are an organization with heart.

NOVA’s mission is to develop excellence in swimmers of all ages and abilities by challenging and motivating them, in a safe and inclusive environment, to reach their fullest potential in swimming and in life. NOVA strives to help develop great human beings, as well as great swimmers. Our swimmers learn valuable lessons about self-discipline, teamwork, and social responsibility.

The Aquatics Center at Regency will enable NOVA to continue its rich tradition of giving back. There will be more capacity for swim lessons, adult fitness swimming, camps, swim meets, team training, and warm water aquatics therapy for the community. Please join us through giving. We thank you for being part of the POWER of NOVA, changing lives in and out of the water.

NOVA joining the regional Learn-to-Swim initiative
through lessons at the Aquatics Center at Regency

This past Spring, eighty 2nd graders at Ruby Carver Elementary School did the unfathomable. They boarded a HCPS bus, arrived at NOVA Aquatics, and began to learn to swim. Weekly instruction was differentiated, based upon prior swim experience, allowing each student a safe entry point into the water. Students arrived anxious and apprehensive, but the swim instructors and lifeguards supported each student in progressing along in their skills.

Ruby Carver students, teachers, administrators, and parents were impressed with the determination of the students and instructors. NOVA provided not only meaningful instruction; but, also supported students through equipment and private changing needs. The most difficult part of every lesson was the same . . leaving.

HCPS looks forward to increasing the access to this invaluable and lifesaving experience at the NOVA Aquatics Center at Regency for years to come. It will take school and community support, working together to ensure that all students have the opportunity to learn to swim, and develop essential healthy lifestyle habits.

A High School Swimming Story

My name is Mahmood Al'hasani and I first started at NOVA as a high school swimmer at Hermitage. I was that kid who couldn't swim. NOVA coaches taught me how to swim. I competed and enjoyed being near to the water. Then NOVA got me a scholarship so I could get trained as a lifeguard and I worked for NOVA as a lifeguard. It was a great experience and the best two years because of swimming.
NOVA in the Community

Through NOVA’s long-time partnership with Goochland Christmas Mother, our team families pool our resources to make a life-changing impact on families in need. These families have wishes as well as needs that they are unable to fulfill. It’s an amazing opportunity for swimmers from Novice to Senior to change lives and spread joy during the holidays!

From Maria, a 2020 recipient:
NOVA’s Christmas Mother has been a great help, especially this year with a baby girl on the way. We were more than blessed with everything that NOVA’s members got for my family. Thanks to NOVA we got the final essential items we needed for the arrival of our new baby which gave my husband and I peace of mind. Our oldest daughter got so many presents that she didn’t know what new toy to play with or what new outfit to wear. Just seeing her so happy and excited made my husband and I so happy. We are so thankful for NOVA and programs like Christmas Mother.

NOVA partnered with Richmond Family Magazine to sponsor Dunk Hunger.

The purpose was to work with area summer league swim teams to collect canned goods for the food insecure.

Over a seven year period, this program collected over 300,000 pounds of canned goods for FeedMore and the Central Virginia food bank.
