Dear Cienega Families,
November is a great time of year to pause from our busy lives, take a moment to reflect, and be thankful.
Thank you for entrusting us with your children. It truly is wonderful showing up to work everyday to help shape the lives of over 2000 teenagers.
We are thankful for our Bobcat Family here at Cienega High School. Our teachers and staff are some of the most hardworking, dedicated, school-spirit filled people around. Working beside people we respect and trust is priceless!
Each month we highlight information from our student handbook. School safety is a priority for Cienega. We practice a variety of safety drills. As a reminder, below are the different drills we conduct throughout the school year.
Shelter In Place
This is where we have NO movement throughout our campus
but teaching and learning continue
. Shelter In Place should not alarm students, staff or parents. Shelter In Place is simply a process where CHS Administration and authorities are investigating a potential situation and we need to limit movement across the campus.
Lockdown
Students and staff are instructed to lockdown, barricade doors, and remain quiet. There is NO movement, no noise and no classroom instruction.
Evacuation
Students and staff simply evacuate all buildings and exit to the perimeter of our school campus.
As always, thank you for your support in helping to get all of our students college and career ready.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Jeremy Vega and his choir as they sing Christmas carols during the event.
Thanks to

Congratulations to the CHS Orchestra for their well-deserved Superior rating at the ABODA Orchestra Festival!
The Copper Thunder Marching Band successfully competed in three
festivals this season, including one to NAU where they participated in a school tour and team building event at the NAU Challenge Course and the University of Arizona where they mingled with many Cienega Alumni that are now a part of the Pride of Arizona Marching Band.
As always, none of this would be possible without the support of the CHS Administration and selfless volunteers. Mr. Mat was honored at UArizona Tech Park for his 10 years in partnership to celebrate the UArizona Homecoming. The close of the marching season is bitter sweet for the Copper Thunder Marching Band as it also marks the end of a decade of dedication that Mr. Mat has bestowed on the program. The Copper Thunder Marching Band is grateful for their time with Mr. Mat and looks forward to their remaining time together in support of Bobcat Nation!

It's Fall What Should I Be Doing Now?
November is the gateway month to the winter holidays. This is when the school year rapidly approaches the halfway point. If you are a college bound student, this is an important time to ramp up your fall and winter college preparation activities. Here is an outline of suggested fall activities for each grade level.
Freshmen
Sophomores
- If you haven't joined any extracurriculars, join now. Or if you were involved in some last year, start thinking about leading projects within the club/activity.
- You should be settled into a routine by now. Make improvements as needed.
- Reflect on your year so far and finish this first half strong! Start researching your post-high school plans (colleges, apprenticeships, certificates).
- Continue to research different colleges to find your best-fit college. Use the college savings calculator to determine how much money you'll need for college. https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/pay-for-college/paying-your-share/college-savings-calculator
- Update your https://www.raise.me/ account.
Juniors
- Keep up with your extracurriculars. Try out or run for officer positions (treasurer, secretary, captain, etc.).
- Start your preparation for spring standardized tests.
- Continue your college search. Create a realistic list of colleges to apply to.
- Continue your scholarship search. http://chs.vail.k12.az.us/counseling/scholarships/
- Explore interests and learn new skills.
- Update your https://www.raise.me/ account.
