All PAA members are invited to our annual Holiday Party scheduled this year as an in-person event at the ArtCentre of Plano. It will be held on Tuesday evening, December 14, at 7:00 pm.

Our special guest for the evening will be Byrd Williams IV (left). He is a renowned photographer and his father, grandfather and great grandfather preceded him as highly noted photographers. His family story was recently aired in a Special on PBS. His family collection is housed in a special center at the University of North Texas. So, mark your calendar and don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate the holiday season with fellow artists. Wine and holiday treats will be served.
Introducing PAA Artist Spotlight on Social Media

PAA is thrilled announce the concept of “Artist Spotlight” as part of our member engagement program. Here’s how it will work.

Each week, one PAA artist gets to showcase their profile and their work. In that week you will have the opportunity to share samples of your work.

See example to the right, if your scheduled from a week like November 1 though November 6, the first day we will post your photo, few lines about you and your artist statement and one artwork sample. On subsequent days your other works will be published giving you exposure throughout the week. You can also use these posts to share your works beyond members.

“Artist Spotlight” posts will appear in the our FaceBook groups: Plano Art Association (Official group) , PAA-Member Connection group and Plano Art Association Instagram account. Posts will be done only by PAA administration.

Info we need from you:
Your full name, your photo, your artist statement about your art journey in 5 or 6 lines and images of your artwork (max 7 images), your Instagram ID if you have one.

If you have not followed the FB groups and Instagram accounts of PAA please do so.

Email your info to [email protected] on or by Saturday, November 20. The “ Artist Spotlight” series will start in December.

P.S: Though this is certainly not mandatory, we request all our members participate in this wonderful initiative of PAA. This is a great platform for PAA and its members to showcase their collaboration and help in mutual success.

I consider my paintings mental adventures intended to intrigue the viewer in many facets of painting, while, at the same time, providing the viewer a rewarding visual experience.”

Plano Library Exhibit Space is Available
for Free to PAA Artists For Installations
If you wish to display a piece of your art (or two depending on space), Plano Public Libraries have spaces available for a month at a time.

They have requested that we do not price the work, and only display work that is within our own guidelines for all ages and preferences (no nudes, or content with violence or political content).

Include a card with each piece (3.5x2") with the artist's name, title of the work, and your email address or website. It would be helpful if you typed "Member of Plano Art Association." Also you can type up a small bio to be displayed on a stand next to your wall or next to your artwork. Example of card:

It will be up to the media specialist at the library as to how they want to display our work. All work must be on a wire and ready to hang on the wall system in place. On the moveable displays in the libraries, you will need to mount the work on foam core or some substrate that can then be velcroed to the wall. You must provide the velcro hanger.

The photos above show examples of the spaces available. Each library has different hanging systems. Each installation will hang for about a month and will be scheduled by the order in which requests are received.

If you wish to display your art in one of the Plano libraries, first you need to contact the media specialist in specific libraries to reserve the space. if you would like to combine your work with a fellow PAA member, you can do so. Simply let the library media specialists know your plans.

This is another opportunity for PAA to give back to the community and to show off our wonderful artists.

Free Art Supplies

Before our longstanding PAA member and friend, Beverly Theriault, recently passed away, she asked that her art supplies be donated to members of Plano Art Association.

(See photos of some of the supplies...bushes, paint, canvases, palette knives and more.)

On Saturday, November 19, from noon till 2:00 pm, on a first-come-first-serve basis, you can choose among the supplies that you might find useful. You are asked to limit your pick to a maximum of 5 small items and 5 large items. We also ask that you make a small donation in any amount to PAA. A cash jar will be available on site.

If you are interested, contact Gaby Pruitt. Email her at [email protected] and let her know that you will be coming by her studio to pick from the supplies. They will be displayed at Gaby’s studio. She will give you directions to her studio and more details when you contact her.

On Tuesday evening, October 26, Dick Mitchell was featured as special guest presenter at our October members' meeting.

The Zoom meeting was attended by more than twenty PAA members. Dick "broadcasted" from his studio near Downtown Plano. Those attending were treated to interesting insights into Dick's journey as an artist. He also shared valuable details about his award-winning techniques.

Message from the President
Thanks to everyone who helped make the Global Reflections Exhibit the success it was. In every aspect it was professionally produced and beautifully staged. The reception was an excellent occasion for our first in-person event in such a long time.

We have other events coming soon that will also be in-person. We all look forward to the camaraderie that comes with these events.

The following is a note received from Kelly McCurdy.

To the Board, Executive Committee, Membership:
It is my deep regret that I need to resign most duties associated with the President Elect and President positions. I am having health problems that inhibit my performance, as I would like and as you deserve. It bothers me, especially with the changes in leadership within the past year to inform you of this. I have loved working with Gene and the rest of the PAA volunteers. I wanted to do the very best for PAA and that is why I haven't been able to leave earlier.

We truly appreciate all Kelly has done in her roles as Secretary, President Elect, Board Member and willing volunteer. She states that she will certainly continue on our Board and will serve as a volunteer. We look forward to a continued relationship with Kelly and wish her well.

Based on this news, we are now searching for a candidate to fill Kelly's place. As President Elect the individual will be in line to be the next PAA president. If you are interested in being considered, or if you wish to recommend another member, please contact me at [email protected].

Gaby Pruitt has volunteered to provide extra assistance in the meantime. She has great knowledge of the organization and will be a major helpful resource in expanding her role as Administrative Executive. Many thanks to Gaby.

Amazon Smile
Did you know you can give money to the PAA just by using Amazon Smile. Instead of using the general Amazon website, sign on the Amazon Smile. Designate Plano Art Association as your charity and any purchases you make will have a small percentage of the Amazon profit go to the PAA instead. It is an easy way to give money, and you pay the same price for the items on Amazon Smile as you would for the regular Amazon. Just think if all of our members (and maybe their family and friends) would do this as a habit. It would really help our budget.
