A message from your District Administrator

Dear School District of Wisconsin Dells Community Members,

Please take a moment to review this month’s edition of our e-newsletter. District officials have put together various articles to keep our district’s constituents up-to-date on a variety of topics at all levels of our schools. If you need additional information, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you!

Dear School District of Wisconsin Dells Community Members,

November is a transitional month as we move later into the fall season and into early winter weather on some occasions. This is an excellent time to remind everyone how the district will inform families when the district faces a closure, delay, or early release because of inclement weather.

The district will announce its final decision regarding school operations by 6:00 AM, using phone calls to families and social media posts. If an early dismissal is required, the decision will be made by 11:00 AM for a 12:30 PM release.

To assist with a seamless early dismissal, please:

·        Ensure your child's alternative transportation arrangements are updated with the elementary office or their teacher.

·        Have a plan in place for potential delays or early dismissals caused by inclement weather.

Having an alternative plan in place will help our office staff, teachers, and aides efficiently guide your child to the correct bus or their designated alternative transportation.

Smartphone Usage in Children Under the age of 13

By: Felipe Armijo, Principal of Lake Delton Elementary

Research on smartphone use for children under 13 indicates short- and long-term effects on their development, health, and well-being. Here's a summary of what recent studies and research have found.

Research suggests that excessive smartphone use can lead to a shorter attention span in children. A study published in JAMA Pediatrics found that children who spent more time on digital devices had reduced attention spans and lower levels of sustained attention over time. ...READ MORE

ACCESS Testing for English Language Learners

By: Dawn Sine, Director of Pupil Services

School Districts across Wisconsin and the US engage in several state and locally mandated-assessments to measure students' academic growth and overall achievement in various subjects.  One mandated assessment that many within our state and community are unaware of is the ACCESS (Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State for English Language Learners) test for English Language Learners (ELL). ...READ MORE

Tips For Parents: Healthy Social Media Use

By: Brooke Scott, Middle School Associate Principal

Understand the apps. What was true two years ago is no longer the case. Download the apps yourself and understand how they work. The apps and their algorithms are stronger than our will, and understanding how they work can help parents create sensible limits.

Understand that all social media is advertisement. This is not about the actual selling of goods but rather branding an image of one's self. What we post on social media signals to others how we want to be perceived...READ MORE
