Looking for a rewarding way to serve the community while sharing a pivotal chapter of history with students? We are seeking volunteers to assist with Time of Remembrance, the popular field trip program focused on the wrongful incarceration of Japanese Americans during WWII. You don’t need to be a camp survivor or descendant to participate—we welcome volunteers from all backgrounds to serve as group leaders, classroom presenters, and tour guides.

Northern California Time of Remembrance (NCTOR): Preserving History
Saturday, February 14 | 1:00 - 3:00 pm

Join us at the Museum on Saturday, February 14 for the Northern California Time of Remembrance event, presented by local JACL chapters.

This year’s event, “Preserving History,” features Naomi Ostwald Kawamura, executive director of Densho, a Seattle-based nonprofit and digital archive that preserves and shares the history of Japanese American wartime incarceration to promote equity and justice today. Also presenting is Duncan Ryuken Williams, the founder of the Ireichō Project, a national monument that will be onsite at the Museum during the program.

2025 RECAP
The Year in Review

As we ring in 2026, we’re reflecting on an incredible 2025 at the Museum. We celebrated American servicewomen in WWII with "Our War Too: Women in Service," opened a brand new redesigned California Hall of Fame exhibit, and brought the stories of the Black Panthers to the Museum with "Revolutionary Grain" and its grand opening event, "By the People, for the People."

Over the summer we welcomed 50 kids to California Time Traveler Camp for a week of learning and fun. In the fall, "Recuerdos Ilustrados: Día de los Muertos 2025" opened during our vibrant annual fiesta. We even celebrated the Golden State's 175th birthday at our California Statehood Day Celebration—complete with the original California constitution on display courtesy of the California State Archives!

We had a blast connecting with our incredible members at exclusive gatherings, local walking tours, book talks, lively Q&As, and other special programs. We hosted more member-exclusive events than ever before in 2025, and we're thrilled to keep the energy going strong into 2026.

A huge thank you to our volunteers for making everything possible. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Here’s to even more inspiring exhibits, events, and connections in 2026!
