Injured WI Veteran Riders to Receive a
Harley-Davidson to Start 2022's Season Off!
Hogs For Heroes is a small, Wisconsin-only nonprofit that raises funds to buy Harley-Davidson motorcycles for injured WI Veteran riders whose healing may benefit by returning to the road for what we riders call "wind therapy". We believe regaining the freedom of the open road, the pride in ownership and the collegiality of riders can provide therapeutic value to those Veterans who have enjoyed the passion for riding and now find themselves without means or ability to have that bike in their life. We work to help heal wounds incurred during active duty--physical, psychological, emotional--and whose existence is likely exacerbated by a lack of effective resources and support. Our gift is NOT an award for service: it is an alternative therapy intended to help those struggling and at-risk individuals reconnect and re-engage with a motorcycle as the tool to do so. We know motorcycling isn't everyone's cup of tea; but if it's in your blood, it's absence in one's life hampers who you are and how you live. It's now that time of year where we seek injured WI Veteran riders who want, and will benefit from having, this specific healing therapy back in their lives.
We are four family members, none of whom served, who do this volunteer work on the side of jobs and family. Our goal is to gift one Harley a year and change one life a year. It honestly shocks us every day to realize our impact over the years. And to have wrapped up 2021 by returning our 22nd Veteran back to the road--in just over five years--really does blow us away. Six bikes in 2021 alone and a new record for us! Stunning, right? But wait till you get a load of this holy-smokes news....
Right now we plan to gift eight bikes in 2022 and will seek out our first six recipients for bikes to roll out between May and July. We anticipate opening 2022's last application period this spring and will then seek our next Recipients to regain the benefits of wind therapy the second half of summer.
It is our fabulous supporters who put that kind of fuel in our tank, and we couldn't be more grateful for believing in us. As life returns to some semblance of normality and gatherings return, many great organizations have chosen us as the beneficiary of their awesome 2022 events!
