The Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board congratulates Congresswoman Deb Haaland on her historic confirmation as Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior. 

NPAIHB and Indian Country celebrate the historic confirmation of Deb Haaland (Pueblo of Laguna) as Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior. According to Indian Country Today, Haaland's daughter, Somáh, will live stream the swearing-in ceremony from her Instagram account on either Wednesday or Thursday. In a press release today, Haaland expressed her gratitude to her staff and colleagues.

Health and Human Services Tribal Consultation Policy, Mar 25, 2021
Pursuant to President Biden's Presidential Memorandum on Jan 26, 2021, executive departments and agencies have been tasked with submitting a detailed plan for implementing Executive Order 13175 and have scheduled tribal consultation to obtain tribal input on strengthening and improving the tribal consultation policy and process.
President Biden Signed the American Rescue Plan. This legislation contains over $31 billion in funding for American Indian/Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian communities, including $20 billion in direct funding to tribal governments and over $6 billion to the Indian Health Service for tribal health programs.
H.R. 1859 Grant funding for State and tribal governments through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to establish unarmed 911 response programs.

H.R. 1849 Center for Disease Control and Prevention funding for core public health infrastructure

H.R. 1848 Funding for rebuilding and modernizing broadband infrastructure, drinking water infrastructure, and modernizing the electrical grid.

H.R. 1835  COVID Community Care Act. An additional $400m for the Indian Health Service for implementation of a comprehensive COVID-19 response. Funding through 2024.

H.R. 1811 Amending the Indian Health Care Improvement Act to authorize additional funding for hospitals and outpatient health care facilities.

CDC Methods to Transfer Vaccines from States to Tribes. CDC developed methods to transfer vaccines from state jurisdictions to Indian/Tribal/Urban health systems without tribal health programs having to enter into a separate provider agreement through the state/local jurisdiction. Link to Guidance
CDC FAQ on Funeral and Burial Services. CDC issued guidance for tribal leaders regarding funeral and burial health and safety during COVID-19 pandemic.
