Action Alert

FY 2022 Budget Reconciliation. A number of Senate and House Committees are currently working on their recommendations for the $3.5 trillion Build Back Better plan. NPAIHB has prepared a tribal template letter for our Northwest senators urging their support for critical investments in the Indian health system. 

Administrative and Regulatory Updates

Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Tribal Consultation on FY 2023 President’s Budget. OMB announced tribal consultation on Sep. 23, 2021 at 11 am Pacific. OMB is requesting for feedback specifically on highest priority programs and activities for investment in FY 2023 budget, treatment of proposed program and activity funds in Budget Reconciliation and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, technical assistance needs, options for mandatory funding for the Indian Health Service, and barriers to improvement of water infrastructure. NPAIHB will hold a Tribal Caucus on Monday, Sep. 20 at 1:00 PM Pacific to prepare for the virtual tribal consultation session.

 

Indian Health Service (IHS) Tribal Consultation on Designating Arizona as a Purchased/Referred Care Delivery Area (PRCDA). On Aug. 20, 2021, IHS announced tribal consultation on the multi-year feasibility study results for designation the entire state of Arizona as a Purchased/Referred Care Delivery Area. NPAIHB will hold a Tribal Caucus on Monday, Sep. 20 at 1:00 PM Pacific to prepare for the virtual tribal consultation sessions.

Not Invisible Act Joint Commission on Reducing Violent Crime Against Indians. 

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is soliciting nominations from Tribes to serve on the Joint Commission to develop recommendations to the Secretary and Attorney General on actions the federal government can take to increase intergovernmental coordination to identify and combat violent crime in Indian Country.

 

CDC Eviction Moratorium Order in Areas of Substantial and High Transmission of COVID-19 vacated in recent U.S. Supreme Court Ruling. On Aug. 26, 2021, the U.S. Supreme Court issued an order vacating the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s latest eviction moratorium.

  • State and local organizations, including Tribal communities are distributing federal rental assistance in their communities – assistance can cover rent, utilities, and other housing costs to keep people in their homes.

Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Proposed Rule. NPAIHB submitted comments on Sep. 13, 2021 on the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Proposed Rule addressing telehealth expansion, Medicare outpatient all-inclusive rate, changes to the Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program, electronic prescriptions for controlled substances, and making the vaccine administration fees available at the all-inclusive rate. 

 

HRSA Annual Tribal ConsultationHRSA announced their annual tribal consultation will be held in conjunction with the National Indian Health Board’s National Tribal Health Conference on Oct. 8, 2021 at 8 am Pacific. 


HRSA Health & Public Safety Workforce Resiliency TA Center Funding Opportunity. Tribes and tribal organizations are eligible for this funding opportunity to establish, enhance and expand the capacity and infrastructure to rapidly deploy evidence-informed or evidence-based innovative strategies that promote mental and behavioral health, prevent suicide, as well as reduce burnout and substance use among health care workforce.
