Interdisciplinary Strategy Helps Reduce No-Shows at Long Island Federally Qualified Health Centers (LIFQHC)
No-show patients are a problem for all health systems, regardless of size or location. In addition to lost revenue from the visit, it costs practices in other ways, like diminished productivity among clinical staff, extra time needed to track down patients, and greater cost to the system from poorer health, worse outcomes and more emergency department visits.

The Long Island Federally Qualified Health Centers (LIFQHC) were able to reduce their no-show rates in half in four years.

Dr. Sandeep Kapoor Writes About Humanizing Addiction and Overcoming Stigma
Sandeep Kapoor, MD, Director, Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT), Northwell Health, has written an interesting article about humanizing addiction and overcoming stigma.

Dr. Kapoor writes, “The way we talk about this health crisis is deeply problematic. We speak of the men and the women affected by this disease as ‘addicts,’ as if they’d succumbed to the drugs because of some inherent moral failing. As in the early days of HIV/AIDS, many Americans are still ashamed to speak of the condition…health care professionals can take a step further by learning to spot signs of addiction earlier and treat it before it’s too late.”
