DRUG SAFETY UPDATES

Drug Safety updates have been issued for the following studies:

1. NRG Oncology Combined Trial Long-Term Results Indicate that Pathologic Complete Response is Prognostic of Outcomes for Soft Tissue Sarcoma Patients

Combined long-term survival results from nonrandomized phase II trial NRG Oncology RTOG 0630 and the ancillary analysis of the combined NRG-RTOG 0630/9514 trials indicate that pathologic complete response (pCR) is associated with improved survival outcomes for patients with localized soft tissue sarcoma (STS) who receive preoperative chemoradiotherapy or radiotherapy. This data suggests that pCR can be used as a prognostic factor for clinical outcomes in future STS research. These results were recently published in the JAMA Oncology. Read the press release

2. NRG Process for Early IRB Closure

REMINDER: Sites requesting early closure must complete and submit a Request for Early IRB Closure form to NRG. Approval from NRG must be obtained prior to closing with their IRB of record. Further instructions and the form are located on the NRG website.

Note for sites participating in NRG-LU005: Only closure requests for sites without patients enrolled will be accepted. Data analysis is ongoing for this trial; therefore, sites with patient accrual must keep the trial open until notified by NRG. 

3. Request for NCORP PILOT Project Applications

NRG Oncology NCORP solicits PILOT projects addressing NRG NCORP Cancer Care Delivery Research (CCDR), Cancer Prevention and Control (CPC) Research and Health Disparities Research (HDR) priorities. PILOT projects should generate preliminary data and address feasibility issues to inform the development of a future NCORP concept. Refer to the links below for further details.

4. Register for the upcoming webinar hosted by the NRG Cancer Care Delivery Committee: Advancing equity in artificial intelligence for cancer care delivery

Cancer care delivery increasingly employs artificial intelligence tools to improve diagnosis, treatment selection, and health system efficiency. As tool integration progresses in clinical care settings, practitioners should be intentional about equitable implementation and knowledgeable about algorithmic fairness, which may exacerbate current health disparities. This webinar will address current artificial intelligence initiatives poised to promote fairness and health equity in optimizing cancer care delivery. This session will be held on April 26, 2023, 2 – 3:30pmEST and co-lead by Dr. Julian Hong of the University of California, San Francisco and Dr. Anant Madabhushi of Emory University. 5. Annual Call for NRG Oncology Administrative Committee Member Applications

Are you interested in serving on an NRG Oncology administrative committee? NRG Oncology depends on its members to assist with carrying out critical tasks to ensure the engagement of research personnel in high quality research and to support the timely dissemination of the group's research results and important programmatic information. If you are interested in serving on one of the NRG Oncology administrative committees or if you are a member who had previously served on a committee and would like to re-engage, please consider applying by following the instructions in the application and submitting a complete application.

All applications must be submitted by midnight April 4, 2023. Current committee members do not need to reapply.

The next call for administrative committee applications will occur in the Spring 2024. The next call for NRG Oncology cancer disease site committees, non-disease site committees, and scientific core committees will occur in Fall 2023.

6. NRG Mentorship Working Group Update

Are you a new CRA or CTN within NRG Oncology? Would you like a mentor to help guide you through your new role as a CRA or CTN? Are you an institution in need of more guidance after an audit? The Mentorship Working Group can provide you a mentor! You can apply for a mentor by going to the Introductory Materials page on the NRG website (This page can be found under the Clinical Trials tab, then Clinical Trials Resources, then Introductory Materials). You will find the Mentor Request Form to complete. The instructions on how to submit are located on the form. Hope to hear from you soon!

7. Office Closure Notification

The NRG Oncology Philadelphia East Operations Office will close at noon on Friday, April 7, 2023. All other NRG Oncology offices and bank locations will be open during regular business hours.
