Ginther Report Authors Highlights NRMN in Effort to Reduce Inequities in Science 
In a blog published in Scientific American, Raynard Kington and Donna Ginther follow up on their original 2011 publication, which highlighted disparities in the NIH review process. In this article, they unravel the complexity of detecting biases, and highlight the National Research Mentoring Network as a step towards reducing disparities in the scientific workforce.

Building A Sustainable National Infrastructure to Expand Research Mentor Training

NRMN's Train-the-Trainer facilitator program was designed to expand mentor training across the country. A new MTC publication highlights this effort, which has so far resulted in more than 6000 training facilitators, and 4000 trainees.   

Early Career Biomedical Grantsmanship Self-Efficacy: Validation of an Abbreviated Self-Assessment Tool 

NRMN faculty created a 19-item self-efficacy questionnaire which  showed that, among 190 NRMN grantsmanship trainees, self-efficacy is associated with grant submission.  

The findings from this publication were also shared by Dr. Hannah Valentine, Chief Officer for Scientific Workforce Diversity, in This Month in Diversity. 

Research: United States National Postdoc Survey Results and the Interaction of Gender, Career Choice, and Mentor Impact 

This publication, from NRMN-CAN faculty Nancy Schwartz, highlights a survey taken by over 7,500 postdocs across the United States. It shows factors which influence career plans and satisfaction with mentorship, and highlights the role of gender and citizenship.

Dr. Johnna Frierson is the Director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University. 

She has completed NRMN's "Entering Mentoring" facilitator training, in addition to being a virtual mentor on our MyMentor platform.
