Better Roads Grant Application Due December 17, 2021

The Better Roads Program, a program operated by the Vermont Agency of Transportation and the Agency of Natural Resources, has set their deadline for funding applications on December 17, 2021 at 4:30 P.M. This program provides funding to support projects on municipal roads that strive to achieve two goals: improving water quality in the state of Vermont and saving money in maintenance costs. Projects must be proposed and conducted in line with the State’s Clean Water Act and the Municipal Roads General Permit. To download a copy of the application click here. Vermont Comprehensive

Energy Plan Released

The Public Service Department has announced the release of the draft 2022 Comprehensive Energy Plan, which may be downloaded from the Department of Public Service CEP website.  


In December, the Department will host five public hearings around the state to provide opportunities for in-person comment. Due to the on-going pandemic, the Department will also host additional online public meetings to provide more options for public input on the draft plan.  For more information about times and locations for public hearings, or to learn how to register for online public meetings, see here.


The PSD will accept public comments on the draft CEP until December 20, 2021. Comments may be provided via the CEP email portal, or by mail to:

Highgate Family Recipient of the Leopold Conservation Award

The Choiniere Family Farm of Highgate Center is the 2021 recipient of the Leopold Conservation Award which recognizes agricultural landowners who are actively committed to a land ethic and celebrates extraordinary achievement in voluntary conservation by private landowners.

 

The Choiniere Family Farm has been in operation since 1945. Over that time period with the many changes in the farm economy, climate and farming practices, the Choiniere Family Farm has become a model of innovation and adaptability for other New England dairies.

Clean Water Service Provider

As noted on NRPC organization’s website, we work closely with municipal partners, state agencies, and regional organizations to address water quality issues throughout northwest Vermont. In 2020, NRPC’s role grew substantially when it was selected by the Department of Environmental Conservation to serve as the “Clean Water Service Provider” (CWSP) for the Missisquoi Bay and Lamoille watersheds...
