Raymond (Ray) Parks, who served as the Director of Community
Connections for Older Adults with Encompass Community Supports in
Culpeper, Virginia, since 2006, has joined the New River Valley Agency on Aging as their new Executive Director. Ray has extensive experience in aging services and programs, including human services transportation, which will be beneficial as he also oversees the New River Valley Senior Services Programs, as a part of his new position. Ray recently served as Board Chair of Aging Together, Inc., a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization including over 100 partners and similar to a long term care coordinating council. Aging Together, Inc. addresses needs and concerns regarding the ability of older adults to age successfully in their homes and communities. Ray has also demonstrated his commitment to strong community partnerships through his involvement with various agencies and organizations that have helped in the development and growth of aging services. Ray joined the team on January 16th, as Tina King retired after 42 years of serving with the NRV Agency on Aging, including 16 years as the Executive Director. Join us in welcoming Ray to the Agency and to our local community.

The Agency's Staples for Seniors Program provides shelf-stable foods for homebound seniors in the New River Valley who have been identified as needing supplemental nutrition. These shelf-stable meals are easy to prepare and include some of the following items:

Save the Date: 2025 Caregivers Conference
Friday, August 8th, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The NRV Agency on Aging will hold their 13th Annual Caregivers Conference on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Edwards Hall on the New River Community College Campus in Dublin, Virginia. This is a day full of support, education and community for caregivers. This year's theme is "The Changing Wave of Caregiving", and our Keynote Speaker will be Joseph Lugo, from the Beard Center on Aging, at the University of Lynchburg. There will be over 50 service providers and industry professionals in attendance and ready to share information about planning, personal care, helpful equipment, and other resources available to make the caregiving journey easier. There will also be several classrooms providing vital information for navigating caregiving challenges.
Attendance is free for all family and volunteer caregivers, and just $35 for professional caregivers. Registration is required and begins in April.

This year's 4th Annual Grass and Grill Fundraising Dinner will be held at Nesselrod on the New, in Fairlawn, VA, on Thursday, May 22, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This is a fun event with live music, a buffet style dinner, silent auction, and much more. All proceeds from this event support our Home Delivered Meals Program, which ensures that homebound seniors in our community have regular, nutritious meals.
Come see the newly redesigned pavilion at Nesselrod. It has been enclosed with beautiful bay windows and has a temperature-controlled environment. Enjoy the best of the indoors and the outdoors at this beautiful resort location overlooking the New River.
Tickets sales begin in April.
