NS Walks Leaders Update May 2021
I hope you are keeping well. We now have over 130 walk leaders trained in our beautiful Province! Although we can’t have organized group walks right now, there are things you can do to make sure we are ready to roll as soon as public health gives us the ok!

Matching participants and leaders - If you have completed your My walk group details form and returned to me, I have begun matching potential participants with you as they come in. If you intend to lead a walk, please send me your form and I will send you your materials and contact information of potential participants.

Matching leaders with leaders - Some of you have co-leaders already. As others from your community complete the training, we are matching leaders where possible. It’s ideal to have at least 2 leaders per group.

Participants signing up to join a walk group - Over 465 potential participants have already visited nswalks.ca and signed up to “join a walk group”. They can now access the forms they need to get started and can bring the completed forms to you at the first walk.

Connect with participants - You are welcomed and encouraged to reach out to your potential participants and introduce yourself; let them know your walk plans; invite them to complete the forms; participants can find forms here Find Forms encourage them to walk on their own; and let them know you will be in touch when we are clear to walk in groups. For your convenience, a sample message you can use is found here, or make your own.

NEW and improved Leader Manual - We have been updating this document which now contains both leader and participant forms. Leader Manual is a link to the latest version for your reference. Please discard your old manual.

Join Live Event - We are pleased to invite you to join this virtual event being organized by one of our supporters, Zoomers Physiotherapy on Friday June 4th at 11:00 a.m. We will learn and get to practice some key techniques to keep our walking muscles strong and flexible!

All you need is walking shoes, stable chair, water (optional!) and a willingness to try.
We are also sending this invite to walk group participants .

Facebook Leaders Page - For those of you on Facebook, we now have now set up a closed group Leader Group. This page is meant to be a communication tool for leaders to share stories and successes and we will post updates for you as well.

Insurance - We are pleased to let you know Hike NS now has insurance for walk leaders who will be considered volunteers of Hike Nova Scotia. We have created a Volunteer walk leader agreement. If you intend to lead walks, we ask you to complete this form before your first walk. Walk Leader Form

Upcoming training - There may be some of you receiving this update who had signed up for a previous leader training, but were unable to join or complete the training. We will be holding our next leader training on Thursday, June 17th. Visit www.nswalks.ca by June 14th to sign up. Feel free to invite others who you know who might want to become walk leaders.
