FY 2025 Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG) Program: Northeast-Midwest Region
WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program is to assist at-risk local communities and Indian Tribes with planning for and mitigating against the risk created by wildfire. Click here for more information.
WHO'S ELIGIBLE? Units of local governments representing communities located in an area with a risk of wildfires; Indian tribes; non-profit organizations including homeowner associations that assist such communities; state forestry agencies; and Alaska Native Corporations. Projects will be carried out within the footprint of the Northeast-Midwest States (Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
TOTAL FUNDING AMOUNT? Up to $200 million

Units of local governments representing communities located in an area with a risk of wildfires; Indian tribes; non-profit organizations including homeowner associations that assist such communities; state forestry agencies; and Alaska Native Corporations. Projects will be carried out within the footprint of the southern states which include Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia, and for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Units of local governments representing communities located in an area with a risk of wildfires; Indian tribes; non-profit organizations including homeowner associations that assist such communities; state forestry agencies; and Alaska Native Corporations. Projects will be carried out within the footprint of the Western States and Territories, which include Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, the territories of American Samoa and Guam, the Republic of Palau and the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, and the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands.

WHAT DOES IT FUND? The purpose of this program is to make surplus real property that is no longer needed by the federal government available for other public uses. Support is available for the transfer of surplus properties to eligible applicants in order to enhance the vitality of a community through public benefit conveyances (PBC). WHO'S ELIGIBLE? State and local governments, regional agencies, nonprofit organizations, and public agencies that assist the homeless
TOTAL FUNDING AMOUNT? Rather than providing monetary awards, this program provides surplus federal real property for public use at discounts of up to 100 percent of fair market value
