The NSGLC is pleased to offer the February 2023 issue of the Ocean And Coastal Case Alert. Find out how a court ruled when a fishing boat crewmember alleged that he was unable to work due to jellyfish in his boots!

NSGLC will partner with the University of Southern California Sea Grant Program for the 2023 Sea Grant Law Diversity Internship Program. The summer internship seeks to provide experiential learning opportunities to a law school student from a diverse background in the field of ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes law, with an emphasis on issues facing underrepresented or indigenous communities. The intern will assist USC Sea Grant with a project aimed to address inequities in seafood access and consumption, as well as a project related to the regulation of seaweed production. The intern will also assist with NSGLC projects and participate in professional development opportunities. For more information, please contact Terra Bowling, tmharget@olemiss.edu.

The NSGLC has released a call for proposals for research projects examining the effectiveness of coastal adaptation and resilience laws and policies. The competition is open to Sea Grant Programs, colleges, universities, and nonprofit, non-academic institutions directly associated with research activities (e.g. public policy organizations). The Coastal Resilience Program grants have a recommended funding level of $75,000. The NSGLC anticipates sufficient funding to make one to two grant awards. Letters of Intent are due by 5 p.m. Central Time on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.

Full proposals are due by 5 p.m. Central Time on Friday, April 14, 2023.

The NSGLC is excited to announce the first Sea Grant Blue Carbon Symposium to be held at the Georgia Center and University of Georgia School of Law in Athens, GA on May 17-18, 2023. Registration for the symposium is now open. The NSGLC is providing financial support to the symposium and will publish a special issue of the Sea Grant Law & Policy Journal in connection with the conference. You can propose an article for the special issue here.

The NSGLC is excited to serve as the local host for the 2023 State Marine Aquaculture Coordination Network Annual Meeting to be held May 16th - 18th in Memphis, Tennessee. The meeting provides a networking forum for state aquaculture coordinators, state Sea Grant aquaculture extension personnel, and select federal partners.
