We're Here for You During the COVID-19 Crisis

We know that many of you are at the "frontline" of the public health crisis being caused by the COVID-19 outbreak; providing our communities with the care and guidance needed to see us through these challenging and uncertain times. This means that it is even more critical that you take care of yourselves in the upcoming months.  As providers who cannot practice social distancing, you face an elevated risk of exposure.  NSRH is committed to ensuring that you have the information you need to protect yourselves. Here are some resources that provide essential information aimed specifically at healthcare providers to help keep you safe and healthy.

Your health and well-being are deserving of the same amount of care and attention that you provide to those you serve. We will continue to be here for you throughout this crisis. Even though we will not be able to host in-person gatherings in the near future, we will be hosting webinars so that we can continue to stay connected.

Be well and take care of yourselves.

The COVID-19 Outbreak: Potential Fallout for
Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights

(Source: guttmacher.org)
"
The global epidemic of COVID-19 is wreaking havoc on a wide array of health, economic, social and personal decisions. However, what may be lost in the chaos among other effects and dangers is the specific impact on sexual and reproductive health and rights, both for people in the United States and around the world. Policymakers, providers and advocates must be aware of the broad links between the global outbreak response and sexual and reproductive health and rights in order to prepare to mitigate the impact.

Unlike the Zika virus outbreak, where sexual and mother-to-infant transmission were well-established, much less is known today about these potential transmission routes for COVID-19. In addition, the specific risk to pregnant women and their infants is   not yet clear, but these groups are often particularly vulnerable to infectious disease threats. Therefore, many experts say an enhanced focus on primary prevention for pregnant women is warranted. "

That was the beginning of  a Guttmacher Policy Analysis by Zara Ahmed and Adam Sonfield , first posted on March 11. It examines how the outbreak will impede access to sexual and reproductive healthcare. People with low incomes will be particularly hard hit. Read it in its entirety.

Mobilize: An Interview with Katrina Lipinsky

Katrina Lipinsky is a midwifery student at the University of Pennsylvania and co-leader of RHAP's Philadelphia Cluster.

That name may sound familiar to you. Perhaps Katrina's a friend or acquaintance. Or, maybe you remember reading about her in a January newsletter, when we announced she was the first recipient of the Karen Edlund, RN Future Leader Award. (Click here for info on the award.) Since then, RHAP interviewed Katrina and included the transcript in their March 2020 Newsletter. The interview reinforces that she truly is a Future Leader.
And, a Current Leader. Brava, Katrina! You go, girl!

The Keith Haring Nurse Practitioner Postgraduate Fellowship in LGBTQ+ Health - Callen-Lorde

" Welcome to the Keith Haring Nurse Practitioner Postgraduate Fellowship in LGBTQ+ Health! Callen-Lorde is so proud to offer the first LGBTQ+ health fellowship available to nurse practitioners. The inaugural class of Haring Fellows will start in September, 2020. Applications are now available.

Through this fellowship, we strive to create a premier LGBTQ+ healthcare training program that enhances knowledge, increases compassion, and brings awareness to the healthcare barriers that LGBTQ+ communities face. With this training and experience, our fellows will bring the skills they learn with them to help close the gap in health disparities for LGBTQ+ people.

This full-time, 12 month program consists of precepted and independent sessions as well as specialty rotations and didactic portions. Haring Fellows will have benefits and earn a modified salary. The fellowship is designed to give the academically prepared practitioner an opportunity to spend more time under the guidance of a preceptor.

The Keith Haring Nurse Practitioner Postgraduate Fellowship in LGBTQ+ Health is funded, in part, through the The Keith Haring LGBTQ+ Health Equity Endowment, which was established at Callen-Lorde by the Keith Haring Foundation in 2019. "
