Returning To Campus: Fall 2020

NSU President Dr. George Hanbury announced plans to open residence halls and resume in-person classes for the fall 2020 semester/term under our regular schedule at all campuses, with most programs having either July or August start dates.

This, of course, is subject to the Governor of Florida’s executive orders at the time of opening, as well as CDC and local government directives.

NSU Community Goes "ALL IN" for Giving Tuesday Now

On May 5, 2020, also known as Giving Tuesday Now, NSU raised $23,436 from 351 gifts in support of the COVID-19 Student Support Fund and NSU programs, colleges, and initiatives.

The overwhelming support of the NSU community, even during uncertain times, proves the power of the Shark Nation. We are truly ALL IN this together.

NSU Distinguished Alumnus Guides Hospital and Community During COVID-19

Randy Katz, D.O. (KPCOM '99) continues to carry the NSU value of service in several leadership roles during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Katz serves as Chairman of Emergency Medicine at Memorial Healthcare Systems. He leads a team of 300 nurses and 32 doctors while also serving as lead medical consultant for the City of Hollywood COVID-19 task force.

Dorinda Segovia, Pharm.D. (’92) Wins STUEY for Alumni of the Year 

Dorinda Segovia, Pharm.D. (’92) was honored with the Student Life Achievement Award (STUEY) for Alumni of the Year.

As a vice president at Memorial Healthcare System, Segovia demonstrates the value of innovation by continuously developing methods to highlight and integrate pharmacists into every facet of patient care.

NSU Business Alumna Named Chief Relations Officer for Kelley Kronenberg

Michelle Martinez Reyes (M.B.A., ’14) joins the executive team for the multi-practice business law firm with more than 160 attorneys and 11 locations throughout Florida and the United States.

Martinez Reyes earned her M.B.A. from the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship in 2014 with a concentration in global management.

New KPCOM Alumni Exceed National Average for Residency Matches

The NSU Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine class of 2020 had a 98 percent residency match rate, exceeding the national average.

More than 100 graduates will remain in Florida for residencies, with the rest spread out in more than 20 states and the Washington, D.C., area.

The NSU Alumni Association hosts weekly live webinars as a free resource to the community during uncertain times. Recent speakers include Maribel Del Rio-Roberts, Psy. D., Chad Van Horn, Esq., Randy Katz, D.O., and Lenore Walker, Ed.D.

Printable Coloring Book for Kids: Color The Ocean With Sharkey!

The Alvin Sherman Library at NSU has a variety of free resources for alumni with young children. In addition to the printable coloring book featuring Sharkey, the Library also has weekly read-alongs on its Facebook page.

New Business Promotion Feature Available On NSU Connect

NSU alumni business owners can now promote their businesses to the Shark community for free through NSU Connect. The goal of this limited-time feature is to support NSU locally-owned and small businesses.
